Changing HHD's
« on: August 05, 2009, 07:47:51 PM »
I'm going to change my HHD to a larger one. I'm going to use XP Pro Corporate x64. I will be a clean install on the new drive. What if I want to put old one back in would that be a problem or not. The one I taking out has Vista & W7 on it.

The Hard Drive in my laptop is 120gig and has Vista and W7 on it and I taking it out and putting a 320gig HD in. I'm going to put XP Pro on the new HD. If some thing should go wrong with the new HD can I put the old one back in with no problems?

There two different OS's, so there should be no problems. The HDD if shut down properly before you remove it , it'll not know where it's at, and the hardware could care less either. Or you could leave it in there, and dual boot that way.

I'm going to put the one I'm taking out into a external USB enclosure. Can I change boot order and boot to it or do I need to clean it and use it for storage?

Depending on the enclosure will depend on what you can do , but it'll show up on post by pressing F2, F8 or F12  and you should be able to boot from it. Been too long since I used windows regular.  :haha:
