Attention everyone please,

New numbers from NOC arrived by fax very early this morning, I did some math and decided to try a theory (a WILD one) that I've been pondering over.  THe result is in black and white (and blue) heheh...and it is literally the fastest speed record by a modem of my type to the best of DirecWay's Knowledge. They "noticed" it and called (which proves they are WATCHING huh)!?

This was taken after using the old Speed Guide TCP Optimizer to enter the data after making my new calculations.  I am running a bit over my advertised 1.5Mbps 'down' and my UP is actually (almost) 256Kbps (but I have an enchanced account ...so that is the secret on that one.  Besides, the things I "tweaked" only apply to download, yet you see they have affected upload as well.

To get these speeds I used the following logistics using the attached file TCP Optimizer.zip:::::::>

Click on FILE then backup your current settings.
Set the TCP Optimzer to Cable Modem and the lower value to Custom Settings
Select your Network Adaptor Card for the Network Adaptor Selection (your NIC of course)
Your MTU should read 1500 and the TTL (Time to Live) should be 64
Under the TCP 1323 Options the Windows Scaling should be "chekced."

In my left side it says the following

TCP Receive Window: 256960
MTU Discovery:   YES
Black Hole Detect:  NO
Selective ACKs: Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs:  2

Now select the net "tab"...........

Max Connections per Server: 20  <----now this number varies with the type of account that you have.   Mine is 42, but the greater majority is 20 so try it!!
Max Connections per 1.0 Server 40
LAN Broswing speedup:  Optimized

NEXT TAB:

Enter a website that you use the VERY MOST OFTEN.  www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, etc  (but only one)!
Click the start button and let the world revolve once (how exciting!) ...then go to the next tab:

You will want to MODIFY most everything in the box to sites that you use the greatest period of time since we are optimizing your for your usual browsing:  I recommend www.att.net, www.google.com, ww.testmy.net, www.thehun.net (smut site in the Nederlands ...so I DO NOT GO THERE but it is a good server that's a good distance from  most everyone, and so it is a good one to put in (blush), and www.yahoo.com

Click on Ok, and now click on START and let it do it's thing!  Mine is set to 3Pings and the packet size is 32 (HINT: Highlight the URL on the top before clicking on start or only the bottom url will be tested!!!!!!!!!)  DO THIS THREE TIME TO GET A GOOD AVERAGE!!!!

Make sure your lower value is still set to Custom Settings, then hit Apply Changes and allow it to reboot yur puter.  Pray short prayer for mercy from above.....

I do believe that due to the latest data as of this morning and because of those particular (heavily calculated numbers), you will see a rather drastic change in speed.  It may jump as high as 500Kbps ...that is what it did for mine ...and I have the slowest rattle-trap on earth!

Anyone with questions please post and be patient.  I am either asleep or "in" the new Server and will get to you as soon as possible.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

"The Rev"

LATE ENTRY:  I forgot to turn on my Windows Scaling.  The second capture is even better so you can see that Windows Scaling most definitely makes a differnce to to latency!  I will continue to work on the math but I am very sure it is "on the money."

What did DWay do when they noticed you learned how to get the proper speed? I doubt they like that fact.

I believe I oould hear them entering the info I was giving them on how I did it, but not to make it so that nobody else could do it, believe it or not the "main man" on Level II Support wanted to know how this was mathematically computed so that they could reprogramme their machines in the same manner, because nobody has come up with actual working algorithms since the DW6000 was released.  So, to the contrary, it appears that this may actually GIVE us more speed over and above since they are going to use the very same to give THEIR COMPUTERS faster access to their birds.....and if they go faster, we go faster.  Simple.   I just got six month of free usage for that one Troll Guy.   This must be my lucky week or maybe I am just holding my mouth right for a change?   Smile

Pretty cool no matter how ya look at it.  At least they didn't chop my speed the instant I hung up, and I have proof positive on them now, so they are trapped if they are not on the "up and up."   But it appears they were being honest once again, and that much is good!

Smile Interesting because of all the tweaks I have tried TCP Optimizer works the best for me also, I'm just wondering if this is just a fluke for you two users or if in fact this will continue to allow you to get the speeds you pay for?? Could this be called an epiphany ?  Razz jk  It is nice for DirecWay that has all them high dollar engineers on payroll and a customer finds the solution, so they didn't have to waste their time doing any real work.... WOW xmechanic!! Well, at least now I don't feel sooooooooooo alone. lol It has been bad here most of the day, even with all the tweaks the Rev has given me. Don't know why it drops so bad as I was over 1100 Kbps this morning, and just kept dropping after 1:00 p.m. I sure know it does suck when you are trying to do things online though. Hopefully they get it ALL FIXED soon for all of us.

lance are you teasing us?? lol Boy I am so darn tempted to go BACK to my 4000, which I can with no problem, I didn't BUY the 15 month contract when I upgraded to the 6000. Figured the 100.00 bucks I would save may not be in MY best interrest. lol I still have the modems, and they are in fine working conditions, only went to the 6000, so my computer could be shut down when my son wants to be online, networks grrrrrr. Maybe wasn't such a great idea. Glad to hear you are having great speeds though lance, someone should. lol

Latest info is that SatMex5 and the DW4000's are not getting along so well, but this should resolve as the night wears on.  That is all I have at the minute.  Please set your machines to the above posted parameters and WELD THE SUCKERS there.  The more we have using that setup the less problems they can cause us by trying to reduce available bandwidth.

You see, it is all about money.  If they can keep you crawling like a damned snail then they will.  So please keep those settings and ride it out until I finish 'hacking a hole' into them ...after all, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, and I also have my cousin at NOC coming online at 10PM EST ....things will start hopping then because I am getting tired of their silly-assed money games.  We are paying for certain speeds, and we are going to GET those speeds come hell or high water.

LANCE....at the top of the forum you'll find a Star Band user in trouble ....Please please please see what you can learn as I am ignorant on how Starband operates or the state of their equipment at the moment.  Thanks!
