Hey gang Smile, just thought I'd throw my 2 or 3 cents worth in on this subject. I (unfortunately) got suckered  angry into NY Verizon's much over-hyped FIOS (which MUST stand for FIX IT Yourself OR SUFFER !) installed last February of 2008, I think it totally, completely sucks  Evil or Very Mad !, especially for the monthly mugging/robbery rate they steal you out of, THEY claim to be so much Faster and Cheaper and easier than the Local Cable Outfit here, which Is crummy Staten Island Cable one of the most over-priced worthless cable systems in the world with a whopping at least 20 to 1 ratio of extremely crappy community access worthless garbage channels to half decent channels, Basic cable was around $45 per month (with NO movie channels  sad) and then it goes out for at least 30-60 minutes each and every afternoon  cry, (They claim it's all due to "Sun Spots", what horsecrap  Twisted Evil), than it was an extra $50 per month for their crummy slow as dirt cable modem with that they force you to pay for their dumpy road-ruiner service which wasn't even half as fast as they ever claimed it was going to be  evil6, so for the $100 per month we dumped them  :haha: and went with FIOS only cause FIOS claimed it was going to be "Only 64.99 per month for 2 years"  azn, what a load of horse THAT was  sad, after all their hidden surcharges, taxes, fees and B/S the real actual bill is always $100 to $110 per month  tickedoff, so I didn't save a dime and god forbid you should ever have any problems, First off you HAVE to sit through the worlds most annoying dumbest automated crap and irritating commercial ads for verizon over and over while YOU wait and wait and wait for at least 45 minutes  tickedoff and if you ever get to a real living human and not just cut off or hung up on your likely to get one of their highly unqualified, undertrained "tech support" rocket scientist clowns  idiot2 and Verizon does NOT ever seem to want to send any repair tech out to fix your problem(s), their answer for all FIOS problem(s) is to simply let THEM reset your router from their office (where ever in hell that might be), that usually only returns some functionality for a very short brief period of time and they really do NOT care if your not getting the speeds you pay for (unless your a verizon business customer  shocked), otherwise they try to tell you it's either a "Microsoft Windows Problem, go to their web site" or a "Hardware Problem for which you would have to seek out your manufacturer's web site for", ohhhhh It's NEVER their problem or fault shocked !, I signed up for the 20Mbps downloads & 5Mbps uploads, no matter what settings and or tweaks I have tried I don't even get close to what I'm paying for and secondly they sent some big ass nasty attitude butch-bull-dyke  buck2 to install my FIOS 2 weeks AFTER the promised install date and she had absolutely NO clue what to do and he/shehad to keep on hanging up her/his cell phone on her/his carpet muncher of a "girl"friend whom he/she was arguing with for the entire 3 and a half hours it took him/her to be here so he/she could keep on calling his/her office to find out what to do next and oh god forbid I tried to even ask it any questions, he/she was either way too nasty attituded to even be bothered answering me or he/she was too busy arguing with his/her dyke girlfriend on the cell phone over which one was going to pick "Their" kid up from school ! (I truly feel for that kid, its gonna grow up so messed up!) Plus the dumb dyke  lipsrsealed ran the Cat-5 cables and phone lines in my house in the sloppiest order that I has to pull em all out and re do em all plus he/she claimed "I ONLY have orders to run cable to ONE  computer!"  shocked (so I had to go out and buy a spool of cat-5 plus all the end plugs and the end plug tool and run the rest of the house myself  evil6, which thankfully I did in just a few hours with the 350MHz cable cause Verizon uses the cheapest crappiest cable money can buy, which does limit your speeds (but THEY Wont/ Don't tell you any of that, natch), I guess that keeps their profit margins up up up !, Many problems have popped up over the first year or so like for instance, My oldest sons new ACER duo-core 2.9GHz laptop running Vista 64bit SP2 never-ever easily connects or reconnects wirelessly to the cheap Actiontech router, even if you put it right on the table next to the stupid router, fios claims "there's some interference somewhere inside your home, try moving the laptop closer to the router or router closer to the laptop !", WOW !, hey, thanks for that disclaimer you lazy idiot tards  oh so nerdly! ! now explain to me why it wont connect when the laptop IS sitting right next to the crummy router on the table  2funny ?!? Ahh didn't think you could FIOS man  angry !, If you can finally get it to connect wirelessly (withOUT fios' help of course)(at only 8Mbps down/4Mbps up) than you lose it if you even breathe or move it !, his bedroom is also hardwired for his XBOX-360 which seems to work fine, it's almost unbelievable and shocking  cheesy !!, My youngest son has my old ass 500MHz HP pavilion desktop unit in his bedroom that is running good old win-98se and is hardwired to the router, that one never has ANY problems what so ever, it's a miracle  2funny !, and he actually gets 18Mbps down/4.5Mbps up ! WOW, The living room is hardwired for gaming and doesn't seem to give much trouble, it just kicks off the XBOX-360 once in a while when the kids hook it up in there on the big flat panel TV, My home office however is another nightmare altogether, this is the only one the dyke wired up and its the only one that has any real problems, I'm on an old ass self built computer that I built about 9 years ago, it's an XPsp3 based tower on an ASUS A7V socket A motherboard with an old AMD Athlon Thunderbird 800MHz stably over-clocked to 1600MHz since August of 2000 with 3GHz of SDRam ! I get the slowest speeds in the building and FIOS is no help at all ever and they really DONT care that I'm paying for 20/5 and I get like 10/2, so screw FIOS it IS NOT what it's cracked up to be and their FIOS customer support sucks, their FIOS tech support sucks and they force you to pay $10 per month for voice-mail even if you don't want it and will never use it ! I say F angry#k Fios ! I should have stayed with cable ! At least any problems they would show up that day or the next and the wireless never had connection problems ! Hope i didn't go on too long for you guys, sorry about that !, just though some of you would want an HONEST opinion, thanks for reading it all (If you could even make it that is) have a great lucky day !   DJ Very Happy

your Sprint EVDO Rev. A are pretty well about the same as my Verizon Broadband Access Rev A.

it flucuates . . . been down to 500Kbps, up to 1.6Mbps.

I drove directly to the tower yesterday.  I mean I was sitting right at the fence.

Normal signal here where I live is 74-78.     I was at 45-50 at the tower.  I did hit 2.1Mbps at the tower.

Maybe i'll just pitch a tent there when I need super speed! LOLOL

Yeah, maybe I should buy the farm underneath my tower. I know the old farmer.  Laughing Or just move in with him and take the east room.

I did think I would have gotten a better signal strength but I was right beneath the tower.  I should have probably pulled into the gas station across the road since the signal was a little more distributed I guess.

But, for now, I guess I'll take what I get.  This is my ABSOLUTE last choice before living with dialup again.

I'm cancelling the VERIZON contract, and going with Millenicom (they resell Verizon), cheaper, no taxes, and no charges for overages (them claim Verizon still monitors usage though)

Very nice speeds. And way more dependable than satelite. And it pretty much stays that way, well with Sprint it does.  smiley

some other people are probably laughing that we're saying a 1.5Mbps speed is great, but when you can't get anything else, it is!  GEEK!

And the upload is way better, which helps increase the surfing speeds. Especially for me, I had 500/50 when I was on sat.

I went back to the tower today. Except that I parked in a parking lot across from the tower.

I got....

Wed Jul 01 2009 @ 2:03:55 pm  DN 3072 kB 2394 Kbps (292 kB/s) compuguybna 643893582010 myvzw.com

2.4mpbs is the highest I've ever gotten.  signal was 48 (great).

Weird thing though.............. Instead of connected to "Broadband Access Rev A".......I was connected thru "VZA Global Access".

I do have the card locked to pickup only EVDO broadband signals (HDR).

Still playing around with it.  I am taking the VERIZON card back tomorrow.   I got the one from MILLENICOM today (its actually the SAME modem).
with "VERIZON" on it.  The connection manager is the same except its not branded "Verizon".

OH YEAH, you're right, uploads have reached about 870Kbps for me so far (although I dont upload much).

SATELLITE (HUGHES/WILDBLUE) you SUCK!
