I have been testing my download and upload speeds.  I have AOL Dial-Up.  The download speeds seem high for a Dial-Up connection.  Is there an error in my test or is it possible to have these kinds of speeds via dial-up?
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 3366 Kbps about 3.4 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)
Download Speed is:: 411 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Jan 11 12:02:30 PST 2006
Bottom Line:: 60X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.49 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 70.01 % of your hosts average (aol.com)

Hi,

if u have dial up then those are cached results, empty your cache files then test again, never test using your browsers back button..

Download Speed is:: 9 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Jan 11 12:50:02 PST 2006
Bottom Line:: 1X faster than 56K 1MB download in 113.78 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 1.46 % of your hosts average (aol.com)

verlak ~ Does AOL Dial-Up have a 'Web Accelerator', if so try clicking "Don't accelerate this website", . . .which may still 'cause results to be incorrect.
. . .and yes, don't hit the back or refresh buttons ~ though I can't do either on dial-up and get any results, rammolo ~ I can only do a re-test.

Turned off my AOL Web Accelerator and now the results are really slow!  These are probably the most accurate.  Not good!

verlak ~ "Not good!" may be an understatement!

find the distance to your telco here;
http://www.dslreports.com/prequal/distance

. . .read through some of the other threads in All Dial-up
and check out some of my tweaks in * Performance Tuning and Services *
and we'll see where we can go from there, I'm sure when cholla logs in
~ he'll add some more advice, hang in there!

verlak; Something definatly caused the first speed test to be cached.I don't know what because I can't cache a test on the main site but can on mirrors.
I guess the web accelerator allowed faster speed on the second test but I'm not sure how since a web accelerator works by futher compressing data if I have that right & the data on the Testmy test is already compressed.
The last test is probably accurate
How well does your connection load web pages with & without the webaccelerator?
If it works better with use it except when testing.
There are several tweaks in the dial-up section you can try all may not work with AOL but you can try.Also read the other stickies about making sure your system is virus & spyware free among other things.
