Re: Wildblue...I looked at them, but they want a two year contract...Plus, if you cancel, the termination fee is equal to the remaining months on the contract x the monthly fee for whatever plan you're on...I won't go near that, personally..DirecWay's termination is "only" $300...So, I bought a used DW4000, had it installed last week...Dudes, it flies...Couple of negatives though...Slower uploads (of course), and the home plan ($59.99) fap bucket is 169MB...Apparently, you have to get the $89.99 plan for the professional size bucket...You get a static ip too...I like the 7000 Pro plan for $69.99 better...So, there's trade-offs...

For those of us using the DW7000 .....a cancellation will cost $700

2.3  TERMINATION BY SUBSCRIBER.

In the event that we modify this Subscriber Agreement, the Service or related pricing or billing terms, you may immediately terminate your account and this Subscriber Agreement. Subject to your payment of the cancellation charges herein described, you may also do so at any other time and for any reason or for no reason upon thirty (30) days written notice. You must terminate this Agreement in accordance with the terms and conditions specified herein; failure to do so may delay or prevent us from knowing that a termination was intended. In such event you will continue to be liable under this Agreement for all fees and charges until such time as the Agreement has been properly terminated or we have acknowledged such termination in writing. In the event you cancel your subscription to the DirecWay Service prior to the expiration of the minimum commitment period specified for your applicable service plan, you may be subject a cancellation fee of up to $700.

There is a 400 dollar surcharge if you don't return the equipment (if you didn't buy the equipemt up front and took the promotional plan).  There is a 300 cancellation fee on the contract.  So it's really a 300 fee, but they take 700 until you return the equipement, then they credit you back 400.  Either way it sucks.....

So if I had wildblue, on two year contract at 79.95 per month and cancel after first month I would be billed for 79.95 * 23=  1838.85  icon_pale I would be scared of that.

that would be scary, but Dway has nobody local that works with them around me, so that makes a bad situation worse.  I still think WB has got something going for them....Dway would not quit installing if a meteor shower took out each and every satellite they had! The ads would continue and the installers would temporarily hook people up to dial up accounts.

yep, I heard wildblue already quit installing in some areas until they get more capacity to handle new customers. correct me if im wrong, but im sure I read this somewhere.  Dway used to run fine for me all the time. now it still runs but slows down greatly between 5pm and 10pm every weeknight.

bryan, you're correct regarding the contract terms for WB...That's the only reason i'm still a Dway customer...And, it's also true WB has stopped installations in certain parts of the country, because the beams are full...Supposedly, WB is launching a new satellite, before the end of the year...

When I had the 6000 only problems I had were slow uploads.....download connection speeds were 1000 pretty much 24/7 on the same bird. My problems started Dec 1, 2005 with the upgrade to the DW7000 and upgrade to  the pro account........have nothing good to say about the upgrade, Dway, or Hughes Network, absolutely nothing! I have had an account with them for over a year. The truth is now shinning bright as the sun, the lies, tricks, scams, word games are all point blank.

My 6000 was rock solid 24/7/365 for 2+ years on G3C...I had only a few short outages the whole time...And, there was never any drop in d/l speed during the night time...

There aren't any cablenut files just for the 7000, but you can just use the 6000 settings... Your speeds look average and pretty good for the time of day.

I uploaded my settings below.
Can I just use your settings in mine, just fill in my blanks with what you have?
I've been reading messages for hours and hours and my head is spinning. I was talked into an upgrade, not realizing I'd get slower speeds than my dw4000 got blah, blah, blah angry3
I used tweakers on my 4000, but that computer has crashed, so here I am.
How about a dw7000 tweaker tutorial for dummies?

I'm on the 7000 regular consumer plan I think.

Oh, and is there a FAP monitor in all this new system info stuff we have now?  Or do you know where I can get one now?

Thanks a bunch

You should just click on my file that I uploaded, and Cablenut should automatically put my settings in.

I wouldn't bother, tweaks do nothing these days. You should consider upgrading to the Pro package, you would get faster speeds than you're getting now. Do you ever see 1070 Kbps? And what are your upload speeds like?

These are M16's average for the last 3 days.  Either he is getting bad results from here for some reason, or he is getting huge speed bursts that are making me jealous and want to steal his system.

Mar 16 2006 1776 Kbps

Mar 15 2006 1908 Kbps

Mar 14 2006 1766 Kbps

Post some results from the MyDirecWay test.

I have noticed that ever since Ca3le updated this site with the new look, the test results have been overly generous for me, and quite a few other people.  Sometimes even being an entire 1Mb off.  I know this because I can watch my bandwidth monitor during the test showing 1100Kbps or lower and get a result of 1200 to 1300 Kbps.

M16, when you download files, what speeds are you getting?
