I think the most typical hi-speed broadband here in the philippines is 1.6 Mbps aight? Yes we do have 3-5Mbps package here.. but you would only really look on to these ones here if you own a major company that needs real internet connection. 384-753 Kbps are the most common broadband speed for most filipinos.
Let me give some analysis:
This Smart Wifi we have here is unreliable because of the setup itself. Relying on microwave signals from a cannopy reciever to a base station for internet stability is not a very good idea. Even cellphones, which only deals with small kilobytes of data have problems with signals, what more if its real internet connection?
A lot of people really hate smart wifi or smart bro because it has the most unreliable broadband stability here in the philippines. It can go slower than dial-up and their advertised 24/7 connection can really only give an averaged 20 hour connection a day.
But despite the fact that its slow and all, people seem not to notice that it is the best thing for some people given some situtations. It doesn't need a regular monthly phone subscription which will cost you around 700-1000 php a month or a cable tv connection which will cost you around 500-1000 php a month too. This subcription plus an internet broadband subscription can be too much for some. Especially students, who are one of the top consumers of broadband here in the country, thanks to the intruduction of online games ( Ex. Ragnarok, Freestyle, Pangya, Khan).
In conclusion, I believe that people who already has a monthly phone subscriuption in their home should chose PLDT DSL or Globe DSL or if one has Sky Cable Gold (ZPDEE internet) or other cable internet because they have better reliablity than smart. And have smart as your last resort or for budget reasons only.
