Hey goldeneyes, try the  first post in this thread: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1703 and I am not too technical either. It will give you your premade settings.  TCPOptimizer.zip which is over the box attachment. Just follow it to the letter. It works for well for some Satelite connections, at least for me. And I am also on the 6000.

Tweaking most internet connections does nothing to the modem, it's the computer that gets tweaked.  Although it is true that you can't get much more out of a DirecWay system by tweaking.  (I think we're supposed to call them Hughes now...)

Excuse me...but my previous post here was meant for another thread...my apologies for the cross post....but...since I am here lemme post....

Before you consider ANY provider of satellite internet (especially satellite) please consider the customer service and overall performance history all of the candidates. DirecWay has a poor to very poor overall rating across the board if you search most of the forums, especially if you factor in benefits for cost of service.  Now there are exceptions but if you ask most of your fellow DirecWay users they will say....hey it sucks but I have no choices...I'm top heavy in equipment investment and yes...up until last year you had no choices.....BUT YOU DO NOW....and not only are these alternatives hungry for your money, they have already demonstrated a much stronger love for the customer.

Right now WildBlue is offering free installation and in their short few months they have a substantially better customer relationship record.....from a performance perspective they also seem to be holding their own.  If DirecWay cannot get its act together and get you better service them dump em and get a provider who will.  Your existing DirecWay system will fetch (on eBay) more than the cost of the equipment to get you into a new provider and you will probably have no regrets.  DirecWay has been the bast^rd child of Hughes since day one and there appear to be no changes in the company to reflect a different direction.

Also consider this....whenever Hughes feels like it they can say your equipment is obsolete forcing you to invest yet another full equipment purchase and installation costs (just ask the Dw4000 owners).....this is a nasty trend in the industry and staying with a company that behaves in this manner is not smart.  The last company to pull a stunt like this was General Instruments (in the satellite cable industry).....and for all intents it destroyed the home satellite cable industry (not to mention many small time satellite dealers) for a long time after and opened the door wide open to companies like DirecTV and DishNetwork....for some strange reason....satellite service providers seem to think that all of their subscribers are rolling in cash.....if a cable company all of sudden told their customers that their boxes were no longer gonna be any good AND they would have to buy at full price a replacement box you can be sure that cable company would cease to exist in a heartbeat.....why should the consumer treat Hughes any differently......

Good luck on YOUR search....but as for investing any more money than you already have in DirecWay....given those stats and your past history (per your posts) in dealing with them.....I wouldn't do it....there are many others out there who will appreciate your business more and will probably serve you better....

Here is an alternative....note the free installation.....

http://www.wildblue.com/

Mention to them that you are a current DirecWay subscriber...they may make you an offer you can't beat.  And so what if it's $10 more per month....if they treat you better and you get better overall performance isn't that worth an extra $10 per month...dern skippy it is.... Very Happy

You must have gone the $99.95 route and no hardware costs.....that would really fry my tators if I had done that and been treated that badly.....run forest run....the minute that contract expires.....

For the record....prior to moving to the real world I too was a DirecWay subscriber....not only the dial return system but also bi-directional (later on)...now of course I did the sneaky thing and installed both systems myself, ran the cross pole test (of course it passed...they almost always do if you can aim a satellite properly and understand the concept of skew) and saved myself the entire installation cost....when they asked me why I was calling instead of my dealer...told em he left while I was at work and told me to call in and have it activated....not only did that work once...but 5 times (I moved alot).

But given the customer service (for the money spent) that I received (or should I say total lack thereof)....and every excuse in the book why they were having this problem or that problem etc etc...with no resolution at times for weeks on end....I wouldn't give DirecWay the sweat off my pigs b^lls.  So yes....I am biased....very biased....and a very displeased former subscriber.....I can say the highlight of my total DirecWay experience was the day I made top dollar on eBay and dumped both systems.

Oh...side note for those of you out there who seem to always get FAP'ed out....don't just go away from the computer for a couple of hours.....if you do that they will throttle you back up SLOWLY.....if it happens to you at night....UNPLUG the POWER to the entire DirecWay system overnight.  When you awaken in the morning you will be totally restored vss throttled back up.....the deal is this...for some stuuupid reason the DirecWay throttle proces treats you differently if you leave the system communicating on the network vss total removal from the network overnight....now they may have fixed this...but I doubt it....so next time you FAP out...try it and let me know how well it works for you.

Also consider this....DirecWay treats habitual FAPers much differently....actually lowering the value that will cause you to FAP out thus causing you to FAP out much faster over time.  And despite what their public response is...they also take a considerably longer amount of time to restore to the "magical" value that won't make you FAP out so quickly and in some cases never (but they will never tell you this...they just blame it on this, that or the other thing).  So many of you who suffer from constant poor testmy results may be the victims of DirecWay permanently keeping you throttled....again....their offical stance will be to blame it on virtually everything under the sun except themselves..... angry5 angry5 angry5 angry5

Yeah, payments were little more than cash out, so it seemed to make sense. But only a few months more.
