just a little back ground info... xplornet wireless,2.4GHz receiver, 5mbit service plus static ip (for gaming, due to their nat router on thier end) on the Zepyhr tower about 2 miles away and can see tower from antenna.

when we first signed up we had constant speeds of 1.8mbits to 2.6 mbits solid, fine no prob
then about 2 weeks later speeds droped down to 200kbits-300kbits per sec, called tech, told problem was on our end, received their "speed doc"(if you've had problems with them they'll send you this, all it is, is a document on updating windows and doing virus and spyware tests)
then for about 3 days speeds were "pathetic" for a 5mbit service 600kbits-900kbits
and now (the 27th) speeds have dropped back down to.....wait ...wait...40KBITS - 75KBITS
just getting a little annoyed with xplornet and paying 80/month for almost less than dial-up speeds (oh and had to pay for a 40' tower to be installed $900+)
if anyone has any idea why this is happening or possible solutions PLEASE, pretty PLEASE tell me so i can get through this.

Welcome to the forum Jaybird2203  wave
Are you on a router?
Post a download speed test with the 2992 file test, and a upload speed test with the 579 file test.

Been going thru this with them as well on the McGregor tower. I love how it is always at your end, They left me with no connection for over 24hours this month, they drop at least once a day, Then come back with about .2m of service. I've spent at least an hour on the phone to useless tech support three times, either they are stupid or they won't admit they have a problem. All I wanted last time was a progress report of when I could expect some speed back after they went off line earlier yesterday, They said I have a virus and there is nothing wrong with their end. They even claimed they were never off line but I have my logs. I have up to date AV software and scan before I call for help. I leave my PC on 24/7 and miraculously it must of fixed itself in the middle of the night cause it cam back to .9M today. Not great when you pay for 1.5 but for them that is the norm. A new wireless company just started up here so once they get a foot and reliable it’s time to say goodbye. I now know why they want a large installation fee up front, to keep you with their poor support, hard to give up that install fee. I can see the tower from my roof and my point is good so that is not the issue. They appear to have absolutely no contingency plans and if some thing goes down it takes at least 2 hours for someone to be dispatched to the tower to see what the problem is. Earlier they tell me it is the local utility’s issue, I have a friend that works for the utility and there was no issue, I guess they don’t even have a battery back up for power outages.
End rant

Have you asked them to come to your house and test it for you?
Then maybe you should get a credit for the down time!  ;)
By the way, go ahead and rant. That is what this is about!  Very Happy
What are their guaranteed low speed standards?
Example: Hughes.net says that 200Kbps. is acceptable, with a 700Kbps. advertised.

according to the tech I was talking to  50% of what you pay for is what they consider normal. If that is normal then tell me I'm paying for .75 not 1.5. I think the crtc should regulate what speed is advertised, as a side note My dialup account was hardly ever over 28K but I'm In the boonies with 3 repeaters between me and the nearest switch so I was lucky to get that.
Btw they must of fixed their issue as I am back up to normal 1.26M, but it is 4am so traffic is pretty low right now.
My point and radio are fine, I pay extra for a reflector dish even though I was OK with out it, I have easy line of site and am less than 6km from the tower. The issue is between the tower and the net. The local reseller has been promoting like crazy so I wonder if it is a bandwidth availablity issue on their end.

the tech guys came out and tested it said everting was fine, at that time i was getting 1.6-2.2 mbits down, so nothing that they could fix. I got the same response that Bricklin got, about 50% of paid for package (5mbits paid for, so 2.5mbits normal) and now speeds are back down again.
heres a speed test

That unfortunatly, for all internet, is advertised up to.
If you can log enough time of files of slowness on Hughes below minimum. They have to do something. In fact if you can take provider speed tests at the busy time of the day(spiking the tests) you can report it too them on their logs, and coll them with proof. And they are bound by their minimum speeds to come out and fix it right. At least that is how it works on Hughes.net.  ;)
Might take that action.

After you get that taken care of, post back nad we will see if there is anything else we can do.  Very Happy

i understand that the advertised speed is what the package is capable of, its the fact the sales guy/service crew tell me that i should be seeing approx. half of what i pay for. also i couldn't find anywhere a statment saying minimum speed, only thing i found was a statment saying speeds are not guarenteed (sp??)

Call your provider and ask them. They should be able to provide this info. I doubt seriously that you are reaching them. At least not consistently enough.

half speed would be nice, had 3 hours this morning of no service, fron 6:55 amm to 9:55, spent over an hour an teh phone to tech support, They of course accussed me of having a problem. They appear to have an issue with their Hydro one backbone, Eithet they have not bought enough bandwidth or ther is an issue with connectivity. The level 2 tech finally ( 3 hours later) said they had a probem in teh area but it fixed itself , Ya right....

i've tried tweaking the connection but still nothing, was on the phone today aswell around 2:30pm lvl2 tech said they were having a problem with speeds in the area and should be corrected by tomorrow ( so she said) and if not to call back again. i feel like they dont know what they're doing, with the extremly crappy tech and shady installers. oh and btw, speeds are back down to 300-400kbits/sec again
