OK, I bought a 1380 sq. ft.. 3 bd., 1 1/2 full basement, 1.83 acres, 2 large car garage, ranch, large covered deck in back, large porch in front, built in early 70's, for $146,000.
3 years ago, if that helps.  Very Happy
And I did shop around.

Old fossils? OK.  ;)
I know some young people have some knowledge of home costs. Not like older people don't talk about it. ( I know I do)
My brother said my home would probably cost in the neighborhood of $600+ K up there. Maybe more.

wow, thats nice. you can usually find stuff like that around here for about double the price. Plus, Hartford has like the 7'th highest average price for gas in the nation. I probably would be correct in assuming that food is also cheaper where you live (its like 3.00 for a gallon of milk here in normal grocery stores.) You could probably find houses in my area with about the same square footage for that price, but you wouldnt have the land to go with it, plus not that many of the lower end of the price range houses have covered decks and 2 car garages.

We could probably get 250 or up for our house. 2 family, 2 bedrooms, a kithchen, a livingroom and a full bath each. Basement (dont know the size, pretty big though, big enough for another apartment)   Deck, land (probably like 1 acre), 4 car garage, 2 porches, and an above ground pool. I price it so low because it was built in the early 20'th century. Wiring is old, entire house is on a slant, and the walls are pretty thin. I am technically the second family, I live on the second floor, and I can hear the TV on at night in the livingroom below me. If my mom wants to get me downstairs for dinner or something she just bangs on the wall ^_^

He must have been looking in the more upscale areas, like Farmington, or just the plain suburbs. In the "urban" areas its cheaper.

I don't doubt the price tommie my brothers exwife was from New Jersey & House prices she talked about there were high. Here house prices are comparable to yours maybe lower.I've been to other places but I've always lived here.I don't think I could take the high humdity for long I can tolerate it on vacation but I'm always glad to get back to the low humidity.I'm also used to the flat land even though we sit about 3600 ft above sea level.& I'm used to the fairly constant wind.
It's a joke we have about tourists here .One question they ask is don't you have any strait trees?
Humidity is a little higher today because it rained earlier .

Nah, milk is about $3 here also. But one thing I remember about living out east in Penn., is beef tastes much better grown in the midwest. But fish tastes much fresher out east.
The neighbor had his house (twin of mine) appraised last year for $180K, but I think you could pick up one in town on a lot about the same for about $140 K.

The acreage you have should make yours worth more tommie.

Yeah, gas was back down a dime to $2.84 today also. I preferred the acreage to a larger house when I shopped this house. And I always wanted a ranch where you can pull in the garage and walk right into the kitchen. It just seems so much nicer that way. I hated the old house where you had to climb up 13 stairs just to get in the main house.  angry4

I dont think I could stand it if I was more than an hour away from the ocean. Feeling that nice sea breeze, catching the yummy saltwater fish (one time I caught a sandshark, I was like "0_o What the %^#@!!! Get this thing off my line!!!" I go out into the sound on my boat, much better fishing than anything you can get freshwater. the fish actually bite frequently.

I am doomed to live with the high prices, I couldnt stand to go anywhere hotter or colder (I auditioned at a college in upstate new york in febuary...It was like 10 degrees out and snowing, on a normal day) CT is a nice middle temp-wise. Plus, I basically have a job waiting for me in my old school district once I'm out of college, lots of the music teachers are reaching retirement age, so there will be vacancies (plus the school system pays well here, a lot better than in most other states)

Gas was around 3.18 here, its really horrible filling up a chevy van with a like 40 gallon gas tank and 10 miles to the gallon...

Yeah that would bite "10 miles to the gallon". But fuel should go down with a new Pres. (hopefully a non party (Rep. or Dem.) Sorry, I forgot the word for it.  Embarassed

Unfortunatly tommie the word is loser. Or independent if you're being kind. I wish it wasn't this way but one of the major parties will have the next President again.

My gut says it will be a Dem.
But the only reason it would be losers, would be mainly the other parties would not play nice. And he would have to have some real brass to himself. He would not be held to
I guess I should be glad it will not be a woman. (sorry ladies)  confused1

And hopefully no one affiliated with oil. *says long prayer*

tommie;Don't get me wrong I wasted a vote on Ross Perot. We see where he got.I still have an "Ollie for President" T-Shirt of course he never ran.I would prefer a Dem just because the Republicans have had enough time to mess things up .So might as well let a Dem do it for a while.I hope it's not as fixed as it appears.I still believe it was rigged in Florida for Bush to win the first time.Which made him the first President appointed by the Supreme Court.llegal IMO.The second time he was already President so he could fix the election easier.
I make no secret of my hate for Bush & no appoligies either.
I don't think a woman has a chance for a long time. The only way that would happen is if the women in the country really got behind a woman.

I whole-heartedly agree with all of the above. Maybe Bush will fall victim to the 0 curse (I don't remember what its actually called.) Every president who has been elected in 0 year (1960 for example) has died in office, even if it was just technically- I think it was Regan that was dead for like 11 minutes before being resuscitated. Heres hoping...

I did not vote during Perot, but I was behind him til he backed out and tried to start up again. No one wants someone who changes his mind like that.
[ Lets go to war, wait maybe not. Then again maybe we should.]
At least to the publics eye.
