Need some help. A friend of mine just upgraded to XP from the original Me his comp came with. Now he can't get connected to Roadrunner. His wireless laptop is working so we know the signal is coming in. Figure it's a computer setting but he needs to know what to do.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't know, guys. All I know is he had a connection before he inserted the XP upgrade disc into the comp. I'll try to get more info.  *shrug*

Maybe this will help:

Any questions or clarification, please ask.

Some preliminary questions:

  • Is the PC directly connected to the modem?  (ethernet or usb?)
  • Are you getting an IP address?  What IP?

PC is connected directly to the modem. Not sure about the IP address, but I gave him the list of checks in your link and we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the info, Fallow Earth!

If he is directly conecting it to the computer through USB then he just has to install the drivers for the modem again.
