Hey all, I decided to post a speed test since I haven't in forever. Lets see some speeds from you all as well..
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Download Connection is:: 984 Kbps about 0.98 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 120 kB/s
Tested From::
http://testmy.net/
(Server 1)
Test Time:: 2006/08/08 - 9:26am
Bottom Line:: 17X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 8.53 sec
Tested from a 2992 kB file and took 24.915 seconds to complete
Download Diagnosis:: 90% + Okay : running at 95.16 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com)
D-Validation Link::
http://testmy.net/stats/id-PT4UW7MQ3
User Agent:: Opera/9.01 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
On the slow side today. I was going to run and upload test, but it was taking too long. I'll run one later. My brother must be doing some kind of S#!t. Here's my trasmission report:
Number of Successful Transmissions 193364
Number of Failed Transmissions 784
Number of Packets Submitted for Transmission 90188
Not bad, .004 failure rate (if I remembered to do it correctly).

I am new to Hughesnet and am having troubles trying to download some larger files I have the pro pac and am looking to get a pro + tomorrow so I can get a static IP it seems that port forwarding is my trouble and need to open a port to download faster I have speeds that last for a few minutes and then it slows up to under dial up speed.
I hope this upgrade will do the trick 1.5 download and a static IP. If I sound a bit noob it is because I have been reading forums for 2 days now trying to figure this out and have come to this conclusion I wanted to see if my speed looked ok or is there something I am doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum davidrose9
Clear out your temp files before each test.
Browser at the top*Tools*Internet Options*Delete Files Including Offline Content*OK*OK*Test
That will make it much more realistic!

Try this:
Start in lower left corner*All Programs*Accesories*System Tools*Disk Cleanup*check all boxes under files to delete*OK
It cleans out your temp files in a different way.

tommie you forgot the firewall thingy. I went round and round with z/a, finally went back to windows firewall. Have run all the proper test and they say I'm invisible. My speeds were better. Just a thought.

I never used zone alarm, so I was not familiar with it.
I always used windows firewall.
But firewalls do make a diff.
Thanks deven

You might try this one with premade settings.
Or just use the numbers in it, click on the clipped attachment above the pic.
The first post. Just follow the instructions and Don't forget to back up your present file just in case you like the results you have now.

Thanks allot dlewis23 I still want to see dway is changing my speed Tuesday from 1 to 1.5 I have my static IP now but the speed change can't happen til Tuesday then I will have to change those settings probably, huh?
Do you know a good link for understanding the use of IP addresses and or port forwarding

OK what is so funny should I should I not believe the settings you have are right or are you just kidding you two.
I have real trouble with downloads this stinks for some odd reason download will reduce to 5kbyte/s last night I enjoyed 5 whole minutes of great download speed and then here and there after power cycling I may get it for 2 or 3 minutes then it returnees to dial up speed a bit less then 56k
I must have you cached alright then I am downloading at 5 kbyte/s and tested lucky it even did cause no other page would load.

Are you sure you didn't get FAP'd?
I was slow last night as well, but I think I was FAP'd.
Too much porn.

"The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think its real because thats how powerfull our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills, and its very brightly coloured , and its very loud and its fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question - is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us. They say, 'Hey! Dont worry, dont be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride.'

My apologies davidrose9, if it appeared that way. No the speeds are real Burst speeds. They are common for satelite. They are also good for page loading and surfing and such. But they only last a little while for actual file downloading. Anything larger than larger than 5MB on a file and I can guarantee you I will be D/Ling at 1030Kbps. So it has started a few discussions about it.
But the settings are real, and many here have used them and liked them. Or I would not have posted them. I just laughed to detour from flaming. Sorry again. And it sometimes it takes 3 days for those settings to fully set in your comp. I hope you enjoy them. I mainly surf so it works well for me.
Here is an average one I did last night, I only get these speeds at night.
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Download Connection is:: 1990 Kbps about 1.99 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 243 kB/s

Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 91.16 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com)

Again sorry for the confusion.
