IE closing
«
on:

Hi All,
I am attempting to gather information on a possible virus/trojan which is causing IE 6 to close just seconds after it is opened. If anybody can share any information on this, any links, names, filename, reg keys, etc. I would really appreciate it.

Hey Fallowearth
I had something like that with Internet Explorer 7, and i found out i was infected with Virtumundo, it added a BHO that caused my internet explorer to crash when i opened a new tab. I'm not sure if thats whats causing your problems, but if it is, there are a few removal tools out there

I have found a couple of articles about this:
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/security_response/vulnerability.jsp?bid=20096
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/925568.mspx
Looks like a possible issue with a VML exploit. Disabling third-party browser extensions should temporarily restore browsing. Maybe an issue with vgx.dll. Possible unregistration of this file to resolve.

Further update:
Uninstalling browser toolbars/addons also seems to be successful in resolving this issue. Seems to be a combination of things conflicting to cause this.

Just to clarify this issue, it looks like it was due to a exploit/trojan:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/Content/v_140629.htm
Also, it seems to be using a vulnerability in the Yahoo Toolbar.

Yeah, it's true. I know that you can download the Yahoo toolbar when you get Flash from the Adobe site. Whoopsie.

ccleaner updates also.
I am so thrilled.
The only good thing about it is it is quick during working. It will not slow me down much. But I have since droped it.

There's also a quick read there about the buffer overrun.
