Well, I have a small web server locally and everything is running smoothly, but the only thing I have noted is that CHMOD isint working. I tried puttin the CHMOD using SmartFTP, but it didnt work. So, the question is, how do I go about eneibaling CHMOD? if posible at all.

I just wanna use it to deny access to some files from being downloaded.

thanks in advance

chmod will not deny files from being downloaded, you have to do that in the .htaccess file.

chmod....  My guess is that you are not uploading files with root permission or I hope you are not upload with root permission..  What I would do is
Code:
chmod 770 filename
which would allow root R/W/E commands on the files and also the group would have the same permissions.  Then you are going to have to chgrp the folder that the files reside in to make it so that the user that you are using is assigned as the group owner of the file..  Understand that?

So.. I think the command is
Code:
chgrp usergroup filename or directory
I dont have my linux machine here  undecided

You can deny the access to file via chmod by
Code:
chmod 700 filename
I am pretty sure that you have to have 704 set for your files to work.

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2
Server Software: Apache 2 & 2.2 (I have two separeted services, like to servers in 1 on diferent ports), PHP5.2, MySQL 5.1, Serv-U FTP Server (not shure of vers, but its the newest).

since this im kinda new to server setup and stuff, most config are default.

*btw this is hosted in my PC, so dont go off asking why Im hosting a server in win xp*

I don't think chmod would work on a windows system... it's a linux command.
