Got a nasty but unsure how to get rid of it or even better you wanna make sure your machine is running free of nastys and virus. Here are some steps in helping you out. This is for for xp home and pro.


1.First go to start,control panel,folder options,click on the view tab,Click on the "show hidden files and folders" and just below make sure you uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". This will help nastys from hiding on your system.

2.Next right click on "my computer" go to Properties, system restore, and check on the box "turn of system restore. Do this so if you do have a nasty you will not restore your computer to a time you had a nasty and reinfect your system.

3.Now lets scan. There are countless free programs you can scan your computer. I recomend.

http://www.processlibrary.com/ and click on the process scanner. Let it run and see if you have any nastys running in the process. Its free and fast.

Also scan your computer with a nice spyware program, spyware is just another term for trojan. I really like this one.

You can also scan in safe mode, it is a bit faster. Just reboot and hit and hold f8 select safemode with networking.

Also check the programs that start when your computer does. Make sure a nasty is not hiding in there. http://www.windowsstartup.com/download.php After you start it just hit the consult button. See what it is. If unsure google or ask.

Now last but not least you can run hijack this. Be careful that is a powerful program. But if you decide to run hijack this please follow these steps.

Download and unzip hijack this from here. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

Now this is important PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!!

Unzip the program. Create a new folder on your C Drive and call it hijack this. Open my computer. Open up your C drive by double clicking, open the folder that says program files, Go to file, new folder, and call it hijack this. Now put hijack this that you just upzipped into this folder!! Now right click the program and place a shortcut to your desktop. Rename it anilizethis.exe. Click ok. A nasty has learned how to get around hijack this. Rename anilizethis.exe will stop that nasty from getting around it.

Run a scan and copy and paste your log file here. http://www.hijackthis.de/

If in doubt leave it alone and ask for help.

 Now last but not least. Got a file that just wont delete. Well here is a free option. http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/#description Sometime a nasty you find just will not delete.

 Once your machine is clean then reboot your computer. Turn back on your system restore if you use it.
