Latelly my computer been acting weird but I don't know what's up with it ... ( by weird I mean for example when watching subbed anime I gte lag between movie frames - which never happen before ) and yes I have the newest codecs and stuff like that .

I scanned it with different programs

CCcleaner - to clean my trash and stuff

Spyware Search and Destroy - no threats

Ad aware - no threats

AVG free edition - no threts detected but 3 files keep on coming up as changed :

user32.dll
shell32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe

And I don't know if that is a good or bad thing so any help here would be great

Then I also scanned with

AVG- Anti-spyware and no threats detected

I used hijack this to create a log file so you guys can take a look at it and maybe find something I'm missing here ? :

Could be the fact you have so much stuff running in the background, which starts up with Windows. Why the heck are you running both Norton AV and AVG Free AV? Uh, one is enough. Especially since Norton is known to be a huge resource hog. I stopped using any Norton products about 4 years ago because they all became so bloated. I, personally, switched to Eset NOD32 and have not had any problems. However, I set up AVG Free on my friend's and family's computers because it works well and is free. If I were you, I would uninstall the Norton AV for starters.

hm comp specs are as follows

I have p4 2.8 GHz
1.5 GB ram
160 GB HDD
and ATI Radeon X300 SE ( pci-e ) 128MB DDR 3d card

Operational system is windows XP media center edition .

As to answering your questions .

last format ( full format was done around 4-6 months ago ) although I defrag my PC on regular bases ( at least once every week )

Yes I agree norton is a huge ressource hogger and I would be more then willing to uninstall it but I don't know how  undecided

If you can provide any tips for that I would apreciate .

I will try to watch my anime again sometime today and do the ctrl trick to see which programs are running int he background .

oh and one more thing for my codec I use combined community codec maybe that has something to do with the lag ?

That should be more than enough power to run just about anything that you could ever want, as far as videos go.  Well maybe not HI-Def...

Depending on the version, I am going to assume Norton 2004 or better, it should be simple as uninstalling any other program.  The Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel.  After you un-install the main part make sure that you also remove the updater, it is a separate utility and will continue to pull updates even if the core programs are not installed.

The last thing that I would try would be to update the graphic drivers.  I use Omega Driver on my system and have NEVER had a problem with them.. They are third party drivers designed mainly for gamers, but they seem to work on just about any application and are optimized for speed, which is always good!

lag between frames huh? ATI has many, many versions of drivers which might help, but even suggesting a new driver may not remedy the problem (a reason why I side with NVidia).

You say this has recently happened? Have you tried overclocking the video card in the past and kept it that way? If you have a fan per the video cards' heatsink, is that running okay? I had that problem once and it was an easy fix. Does it happen when your running just one program like Divx or WMP, or all?

I think narrowing it down like that before any adjustments/actions made are best. My two cents.

@ keldron

regarding your very first post

Those changed files?!
user32.dll
shell32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe

May have been caused by an update of microsoft installed in your pc...
It happen to me before and even now
my shell32.dll status is changed whenever i scanned it with AVG anti-virus

Reason is
1. I have updated my Wndows XP Home edition 2002 OEM
and
2. I use Brico Pack (crystalxp.net), its a program that makes your computer "vista-like"

And for the log file of hijackthis

may I direct you to

www.hijackthis.de

there you will find a way to analyze your log file..fast and easy!

First of all, Looking at your Log File I see you have Avg AND Norton Anti-Virus. That's no good, because they could Conflict each other. You need one or the other but not Both.
I would say uninstall Norton First.
Secondly you have itunes running, are you using Itunes to view the Video?
If not Uninstall Itunes it is a pain in the Asx.
The Problem when you have two Video or Media Programs running at the same time  the Codecs sometimes can mess with each other.
I do Video Recording and editing all the time.
I have troubleshooted the exact problem you have.

The things I found Fix this kind of Problem are first of all remove all Programs that you are not using.
Close all Programs in your System tray, that is all those cute little things in the bottom right hand corner of your Screen -GET RID OF THEM!
Go TO: START>RUN>Type in "Msconfig"
GO TO:START TAB
UN CHECK all things that you KNOW you don't need to have started when you boot up the Computer. Itunes especially.
If you are not sure what it is, then Do not Uncheck the box.
Uncheck Norton for sure.
This will free up your Memory and allow smoother operation of Media Viewing.
Because all those cute little things at the Bottom of your Screen are called TSR Programs, Terminate Stay Ready, which means they sit in your Memory waiting to be used. This Slows down every Program you are trying to run because you have less memory because of these TSR Programs.
GET RID OF THEM!

Pick ONE Media Player and stick with that one.
Make sure none of the others are running while you are trying to use the one you want.
Try Viewing the Video in Different Media Players to see if you have the same problem in ALL the media Players.

I have found Winamp works very well with most Media, Try it.

Real Player is good, but I have had to call them for Tech Support and Patches about a dozen times to get it running right.

Go to Magix.com you might find something you like there.

The more Memory you put in your computer the easier it is for your Video Card to work.

Try Defraging your Hard Drive too,
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Defrag
That is going to take about two hours so don't do it when you need to go somewhere.
Do not interrupt that Defrag Process once you start it.

This should help a little.
