A trial Norton came prepackaged with my computer. You know the one that becomes crippleware if you don't buy the full version after the trial. Now there's an oxymoron Norton crippleware.
Anyway I chose not to let it install anymore than I could help.I used the 2 removal tools. Then removed everything Norton or Symantic I could find with search. Then I did a find in the registry & removed all I could .There are 2 registry keys that would not let me remove them. They are these :
LEGACY_CLTNETCNSERVICE Main string value is Symantec Lic NetConnect service
LEGACY_EECTRL Main string value Symantec Eraser Control driver
I thought the Eraser one might have been something in my Eraser program but I uninstalled it & still could not delete the registry keys.
So if anyone know how to remove these last keys I will be completely rid of Norton & Symantec.
I guess you know I vote dump.
Here is the removal procedure I used:
Completely Remove Symantec Products to Solve Norton Installation Problems.
Once you are certain that you want to completely remove all Symantec Norton products from your computer, you need to

download the Symantec Norton removal tool, SYMNRT. This is a tool designed by Symantec, the makers of Norton

products, to save users who are caught in no man's land. It simply looks for, and removes all Norton files and

registry entries that could cause a problem with your new installation.

download the Symantec Norton removal tool here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2006050909471013

You can not run this tool directly from your temporary internet files folder, so you must save this file to your hard

drive before you can continue removing your Norton products. I would suggest that you save the file to the Windows

desktop so it is easy to find once the internet windows are closed.

Be sure you print or make a notepad .txt file of this  tutorial You will need to restart your computer numerous times

to complete this process, and when you do so, this window will close. Click here to bookmark this page.

Next, double click on the Symantec Norton removal tool file that you saved on your Windows desktop. Follow the on-

screen instructions. The program will ask you to enter a code to ensure that you are a human and not an automated

program. Once you have correctly entered the code, the program will proceed to remove all Symantec Norton programs

from your computer.

After the Symantec Norton removal tool program completes its processes, you were asked to restart. If you have not

done so, please do so now. Although the Symantec Norton removal tool program does not ask you to do so, I have found

that a second restart is sometimes required for all files to be removed completely. If you restarted when prompted by

the Symantec Norton removal tool program, please do so one more time. If you have not restarted at all, please

restart now, and then restart again after that.

Once we are done rebooting, you can delete the Symantec Norton removal tool file from your desktop. To do this,

right-click on Symantec Norton removal tool file, and then click delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. Next you

need to check for some files that may have not been automatically removed. This process may vary based on the Windows

operating system you are using. If you use Windows XP, click Start > My Computer. If you use Windows 98/Me/2000,

double-click the My Computer icon.

Next, double click on your C drive and then double click on the program files folder. In the Program Files window,

delete any of the following folders that are present:

Symantec Norton Antivirus
Symantec Norton Internet Security
Symantec Norton SystemWorks
Symantec Norton Personal Firewall
Last but not least, you need to download and run one final file. In some cases, older Symantec files may survive the

Symantec Norton removal tool cleanup. To eliminate these files, download the Symantec Norton MSI cleanup file

(SYMMSICLEANUP.reg) and save it to your desktop. Double click on the file to run it and click Yes to any security

warnings that appear.
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/linked_files/tsgen/SYMMSICLEANUP.reg

If you use the Firefox browser, you will need to download a different file to accomplish this tasks. Firefox users,

please download this version of the Symantec Norton MSI Cleanup file (SYMMSICLEANUP.reg).

Does it remove itself when it's done?  Shocked  2funny

No it doesn't remove itself so just delete the 2 removal programs when finished.& I would still like to get rid of these:
LEGACY_CLTNETCNSERVICE Main string value is Symantec Lic NetConnect service
LEGACY_EECTRL Main string value Symantec Eraser Control driver
btw I know you were joking.

Norton is crap. I work for a WISP and you wouldn't believe the number (actually your probably would) that Norton has caused on computers. I have had computers that the customer asked us to reformat and reinstall the OS than go through all the headaches of trying to get rid of it. I actually had a computer once that the customer could not get on the internet and after a few min of searching, I found that Norton had decided that the customer might get a virus if they went on the internet, so as to "protect" the computer, it was blocking access to the network card itself.

Norton is worthless, I am an IT Admin at a company and use Norton AV Corp Edition. Even with latest updates, Norton is unreliable. I had several incidents where the machine ran slowly (suspected virus infection, strange process running). Norton failed to RealTime protect or Full Scan the machine. I downloaded  Grisoft AVG and it detected the virus(s) imed. I have purposely injected several machines with a known virus and Norton failed to recognize it, even if I right-clicked->Scan for Virus.
I am seriously considering AVG Corp / Enterp. for this office. I have approx 60 workstations, and have paid a premium price for Norton Corp, unfortunately. If you are a home user AVG is free.
