trojans coming from myspace?
«
on:
September 25, 2007, 02:03:48 PM »
Hey all,
My friend has been building a myspace page for herself using our old computer and all of a sudden I've found multiple trojans, 1 of which was very tough to get rid of.
Could these trojans be coming from the little dealiemajigs (sp?) she's using to decorate her page?
Thanks

Pretty simple. Do a deep cleaning in safe mode and repeat the same procedure she did before. Can't miss that way. Let us know what you find.
That would be unsuprising good info to know.

^^ Good call. Remove the infection, then repeat the myspace actions in a controlled manner....meaning don't do anything else during this time (ie. email, browsing pron, dl'ing torrents, bruting your neighbour's network, etc.). If the infection comes back -- ding ding ding! -- we have a winner.

I have been on Myspace for quite a while you can check my Myspace Profile to see, under ID the_webninja or Sua
I know half the Planet already
I want to give you all some warnings about Myspace bad stuff. Myspace is cool, I like Myspace, I have spent a lot of time on there, the people at Myspace try hard to maintain the Server the best they can. But,...
There are TONS of Scam artists on Myspace, so many that it is difficult for the Myspace people to keep up with them all. You see all the multi-level Marketing Scam artists decended upon Myspace like Vultures, and got into every kind of Scam you can image.
I will name off a few so you will know them when you see them.
Anything to do with Macy's Free Gift Cards do NOT click on it!
Do not Download any Myspace Adult Viewers it is a Virus!
Do not click on most of the Porn Looking Video Links, most of them lead you to Pages that are embedded with Scripts and Malware in them.
Do not Click on any Free Ring tone pages or ads.
If you are clicking on someone's Pics link to View Pics, and a Log On window pops up, DO NOT enter your ID and Log on information they will steal your ID and Password and hijack your Profile for spamming people.
Do not Subscribe to any "Tracker" services that offer to tell you who is Viewing your Myspace Profile, it is a Scam where they ask you to enter your Log on ID and Password then they Steal your Profile to Spam everyone with.
If you get a Friend Request and the person requesting to be your Friend has like only 9 friends, and no Bio info, they are a Scam artist, do not approve them unless you want your Profile filled with usless Spam messages.
When ever you log in, always look up at the top to make sure the Log on page Says MYSPACE. If is says anything except Myspace, then it is NOT Myspace.
Always move your Mouse over a link before clicking on it, if it does not Direct you to Myspace links, then do not Click on it. Don't download anything with Smiley Faces or Cute little Cartoons they most likely are Viruses.
If someone acts overly agressive about e-mailing you or acts like they want to be the Love of your Life, and wants you to e-mail them or Chat with them on MSN or Yahoo 95% of the time it is a Nigerian Scam Artist trying to rip you off.
BE CAREFUL and as they say on the X-Files TRUST NO ONE!

Yeah those HTML codes from unsecure websites that are on the list as potential websites with viruses and everything that steals from your passwords to identity theft. Best way to check and see if that is a safe page is to get the McAfee SiteAdvisor that awares you of possible viruses in the website before you actually click it. Those Macy gift card ads thats a big chance to lose your account there. Also not sure if anyone remembers those profiles on Myspace that has a popup stating that this profile has Adult Content (Myspace Adult Profile Viewer).. that right there implant a virus on your computer when you didn't click yes or no. By myspace's policy, no profile should have any vulgur or sexual explicit language or pictures on their profile. Myspace is trying hard to crack down on advertisement like they are trying to crack down on sex offenders.

LOL Ebay sellers are already doing that to Nigerians who bid like rich people when they really don't even get a dime a day. Also the Nigerians who are the sellers and we are the buyers

Most likely its not coming "from" myspace per say... but coming from whatever linked images' website she found them at. Id remove the virus first, than help her find images on more reputable websites. you could be looking thru different glitter pictures and shiny objects that would be " just perfect" for your myspace page , than click yes to " add it to your clipboard " and BAM! Your virusedededdded.

yeah most trojan and scams come from the things people use to decorate their webpage. Sometimes they redirect links to a fake myspace login page to get ur password, or link you to a site that will give u a trojan or something. You gotta be really careful with what code from websites you use to decorate pages. I stick with facebook, incidents like that aren't as often.

that is true with anything. Like windows, it gets used more, so it gets attacked more and and more stuff is found more. But take mac puters, used very little, and they get virus' very little.

You should really educate yourself before making a comment like that.
It is because of the unix system that makes it much more secure than windows.

not to say you're wrong, i don't really know much about the issue. But wasn't there some contest to see if a mac, linux, and windows laptop could be hacked and the mac went down really quickly while the windows and linux came to a tie?

I highly doubt that. That doesn't even make sense because mac and linux both are based on unix, and for those that do not know what that means, ill post links later, cant right now, on my phone.
