If not, unistall it then reinstall
If it fails then
Try to get the latest version and then install it...
I have not experience that in Avast but in Spyware Terminator, yup I did.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled the apps... then I got it working on top again...
Hope this would solve your problem...

might be a corrupt file! what are you doing when it crashed? playing...surfing....downloading....have you tried scanning in safemode? might be a trojan slipped by!
