ping too high.
«
on:
December 06, 2007, 08:05:17 PM »
To all smart bro users out there, how low is your ping? I got mine at 600ms using speedtest and as what ive read in forums high ping causes you to lag like mad in online games. So my questions are:
1. If I'll use a router will it lower my ping?
2. If not is there any other way of lowering it?
3. Am I correct about high ping causing lag?
Im using Smartbro, and my net speed is in my sig...thanks

Those ping seem to be kinda high, most users avg arround 30 - 40, some may get 20 - 30. From what ive read here b4, smartbro sucks and theres not a lot to go on to repair that :\

well it depends on how far you are from the server, and traffic. Im only about 50-60 miles from the server so i should be able to pull great ping times

Ballpark figures from
PcPitStop
<=100 ms Great, typical of a high-speed cable or DSL connection.
100 to 200 ms Good, common for cable and DSL connections.
200 to 400 ms Fair, usually seen with dialup connections or faraway sites.
400 to 600 ms Slow, either the connection or the remote site is slow.
600 to 1999 ms Poor, high latency. Typical for satellite connections.
> 1999 ms No response, the ping was blocked or the site did not reply.
On a lan game ping 0 - 8
