I've used AVG before and I didn't really like it that much. Currently, I'm using ESET Smart Security but it's about to expire in a few days and I need a new antivirus. Can someone recommend some great free antivirus?

nope it's like an Immunization/ Vaccination... it allows the entry of viruses and bacterias but kills it after.. and sometimes just like any other vaccination/immunization. it doesn't work all the time! so you need to get boosters or you can call it PATCH/UPDATE.

Gosh sometimes ianonline.........ok I'll spill it, I was pokin fun at the weekly security update that windows has, as well as the need for an antivirus.  see?   I don't ever use Windows unless I'm gaming, so I don't even need one  Razz

But thanks for the insight any how.  Smile

nod32 is pretty good. I was using it for a bit on my windows box at work, but then I just got sick of it, so I removed it, and all other spyware software I had. Yes I am running a windows XP machine with No antivirus or spyware software. Why because if you know what your doing you generally don't need it.

You can say that again. Sometimes I wonder who's the real virus, know what I mean?  Something sitting there scanning your machine for files? I mean c'mon.......

i cannot agree more! seriously, if you're into just browsing and doing "good" stuff on the net. (and not visiting free porn sites, etc) you won't need it.  lol.. except when your fun of using flash drives!

if i download something from the net and kinda hesitant with either its legit or not i use "virus total" uploader. It uploads the particular file (accepts zip/rar) on the net and it checks that file online for viruses in real time, using multiple well-known AV client. such as norton, avg, kapersky, etc. try searching for it its very handy..

Well I actually do no browsing on this machine anymore. its just used for 3d max now. I don't even have it plugged into the internet only our private network. But when I did, i never did anything at work that would get me in trouble so I didn't need any virus software.

On my parallels build of XP i have no virus software either, I don't see the need for it.

Pretty simple here. Since AVAST and AVG seem to be the two best freeware A/V's out there there is only one good choice left.............................................. wink

I use free antivirus because I can't pay for it. I go what netizens would recommend but only I trust. And it's helpful because viruses might already sneeked in out of sight. DeepFreeze is an extension smiley
