Apple announced the release of its long awaited iPhone 2 for the 3rd quarter of 2009
Features will include an HD-Video capable camera and a rollup organic multitouch display. The display will be approximately the size of a 9" widescreen. The multitouch interface will also receive a makeover. New technologies in display integration allow the resolution of the touch-sensore to be raised enough to allow the reading of fingerprints while using the display. Besides providing access control to protected files this feature will allow the display to recognize individual fingers registered by the user. In this fashion it will be able to distinguish between different "clicks" by determining which finger is used to "click" an item.
If the mobile version of the display proves itself in everyday use the technology will migrate to Apple's planned lineup of tablet computers. A spinoff of the coating process could be released as early as late 2008. It would equip the cases of servers with a similar fingerprint reader to allow for stricter access control to hardware in a commercial setting.
Prices for either of these products is so far not available. Apple did however state that the price for the new iPhone would probably be kept under $1000 dollars with a 3-Year contract. AT&T would not comment on wether they would try to keep iPhone exclusivity with the new model, as Apple had not yet made its list of conditions for sale of the iPhone available..
