Just thought I would throw it out there. Lamp black is made from soot. Have you tried call a leather tannery or supply store?
Not yet, I found a site that says it will rub off, and you can seal it with " clear wax " , are you familiar with it ?

Look
here
, it's a few paragraphs down, and all it say's is you can seal it with the wax, but not what and where to get it.

Yea, thats what i thought, and there was no extra money involved at all. Being there all commercial, I was sure they would, but they said nothing of the sort.
Thanks for the link roco, I need to look into it further, do you have any personal experience with sealing lamp black with dubbin ?

Hi Mudmanc 4
I would suggest you don’t use lamp black (carbon Black ) leather is give it’s colour by using aniline dye during it’s treatment , to a depth of about 15 microns , any deeper and it weakens the leather , I am not sure as to why yours has gone powdery , I am guessing here , maybe it has dried out , If you carefully try to fold a section over a finger does it show signs of minute cracking ? and does it feel flexible ? and not like a piece of cardboard, that is the sign of a poorly tanned or stored leather ,
Modern leathers , will not have the life span of Old (<18century ) due to the modern chemicals that are used , Old leather tanners used dog S#!t
, and indeed many old leather garments have lasted well ,
So I guess not much help from me , But dubbin is available in Black ,
LOL on the vehicle fine , I just got clobbered $100 USD for that , I got the reminder with the fine attached !!!!!!!
BTW , if your not in a rush , I know a firm "just leather " that cleans and renovates
I could call in and ask , next time I am passing by ,I sort of know the boss from years back ,

Roco, thanks for the reply. Did you see the pic that I posted ? The bag is brand spankin new, the leather is almost 1/4 of an inch thick or 6.35 millimeters thick.
There are no cracks whatsoever, the leather shop that I bought it at had just finished with it the day before, in fact he wasn't really ready to sell it, but I took it anyway. ( When I see something that i want, I get it, then and there, maybe not such a good trait of mine, but none the less, anyone can see that the piece is of very high quality, and is made to last a lifetime ) He said it needed sealed, but he spoke some other language , and I grew tired of asking him to repeat himself, just the same I'm sure.
I could very well call him, but it would be the same.
I will find out about this piece , and either seal it myself, or have it done. But thanks for the input.

The Harley-Davidson Facts
The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson, died and went to heaven.
At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur. 'Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want to in heaven.'
Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, ' I want to hang out with God.'
St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God.
God recognized Arthur and commented, 'Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley-Davidson motorcycle? '
Arthur said, 'Yeah, that's me...'
God commented: 'Well, what's the big deal in inventing something that's pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution and can't run without a road?'
Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, 'Excuse me, but aren't you the inventor of woman?'
God said, 'Ah, yes.'
'Well,' said Arthur, 'professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention !
1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension
2. It chatters constantly at high speeds
3. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much
4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust
5. The maintenance costs are outrageous!!!!
'Hmmmmm, you may have some good points there,' replied God, 'hold on.'
God went to his Celestial supercomputer, typed in a few words and waited for the results.
The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it.
'Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,' God said to Arthur, 'but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours'.
