I bought a 2007 Elantra brand new not long ago. The car is not even a year old and has less then 9,000 miles. One night when I was driving home from work we were having some heavy rain all day. I was driving slower then normal to be safe, I was doing about 35Mph on a 45Mph road. On the way home I went through a large water puddle about 2 inches deep that I could not see coming immediately after this I heard a scraping noise. I pulled over and looked under the front driver side tire, the front fender splash guard was almost completely off hanging only by a single screw, I removed it and placed it in my back seat. After I got home i checked my car the next morning for any additional damages, I found that the front right fender splash guard was cracked but not as badly damaged. I brought my car to my dealership and they looked at the car and said it was my fault and I would be paying to fix it. I said that a vehicle should be able to handle going through some water at 35 mph and not have pieces of it fall off. The service manager said "Hyundai would go broke if we had to fix every piece of plastic on the vehicles" They refused to fix it and insisted it was my own fault that it happened. They gave me the 1-800 number for Hyundai who told me that i was not covered under there bumper to bumper warranty. I'am waiting for a call back from a higher up. Do you think this is fair, shouldn't the splash guard be built to handle some water hitting it? This is my first Hyundai, but not my first new car. I have a GMC Envoy and the customer care is much better, anything went wrong they fixed it no questions asked, the even have fixed some things since the vehicle has been out of warranty. I love my Elantra but I must say iam very disappointed with the customer service I have received. sry i need to vent lol!

I dont know exactly off the top of my head, I just know it was just some water it wasnt a lake or something. They just gave some of the lamest excuses I ever heard. They want 160 bucks to fix it. If they decide to not cover it ill just order the parts off of ebay for 80 bucks and fix it my self its real simple its just the principle of the thing. You would think a company would be willing to spend 100 bucks to fix a brand new car to keep a customer happy instead of making me jump through hoops.

I know, sounds good in theory, but htink about it fro there point of view, your one customer, say they sold 10,000 of those, and everyone has a different small issue such as yours, they go broke, so they don't cover incidentals like that. If the thing fell off soon after purchase, I would hope to think they would take care of it. Yeah, it sucks , but thats big business for ya.

Hi sean5900xt , wellcome to the word of light weight European cars !
lots of plastic, it saves weight , but  rates well on gas milage ,
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/hyundai/elantra-hatchback-2001.aspx
I think the GMC Envoy is a totaly different type of vehicle , and a bit unfair to compare the 2 ,
BTW the Hyundai Elantra /vantage  does have cheap replacement parts ,but not off the shelf in the UK,  Evil or Very Mad
You would have got the same dealer treatment over here in the UK  Evil or Very Mad

Just a tip for the guys with the heavy weight American cars , if you trade down to a lightweight European car for the economy ,  they are light , and hitting 2 inches of surface water at around 40Mph ,(less with worn tires ) can lead to lose of control of the vehicle ,(Aquaplaning ),

I know what you mean Roco. I wasnt trying to say the elantra should do everything the envoy dose like off road or anything, iam just saying that the customer service i get at the dealer for my GMC envoy has been excellent always fast polite, and they didnt try to make excuses, they have even been kind enough to fix things since the vehicle has been out of warranty, things like that make a diff to me and make me wish I had bought a chevy cobalt, and especially now since iam considering getting a GMC suv instead of a Hyundai Santa fe.

Here is how I see it. ONe dealership will tell you to jump in the "F"ing lake. Take it to a different one who might see it differently .

My wife old mini van at the original sales dealer would not do hardly S#!t without saying we had to pay for it. A different dealer went way farther and replaced half the engine. Then another dealer out of town even went as far as to replace the other half later on. So do no quit at the first one. And next time get a dealer to sell it to you that has the balls to back it up.  knuppel2 knuppel2 I do. And then I stick. Have purchased 4 at the same dealer now.

I have a Dodge 1500, I got her new, in 97'  she now has 180,000 + miles on her, and still going strong. Same engine, same trans. It suck the gas like no tomorrow,  max summertime 13 MPG ,  in the winter snow  when i pull it into 4x4 , she gets around 3-5 MPG. So think about it.  Right now, i am spending $300.00 plus a week in gas.
