Here in the midwest, you have to drive aways to get anyplace. We don't mesure distance in miles, we mesure distance in time it takes to get there. Next town up the road is not 20 miles. Its a 15 min drive.

I live in a small town. Talking to the local hardware store owner (yes we have a real live old fasion hardware store. Bet your jelous I love that place).  Anyway talking to him, his business has improved TONS!! Always busy. Lots of local shops are starting to see more customers. If I super rich, I would open a local shop. A guy could make some good money, while the locals save money on gas. So yes there is a up side to it. Locals are starting to support there local shops. To expesive to drive. If we would of all done this long ago, wal-mart would not be 10 square acres of shopping, and you would not have to search for hours to find the tolet paper and light bulbs.

Ive got a few of them here. And I live in a big down. Very little home depot for me I go to a real store. And If i really want to be cheap and get good quality I go to harbor freight.

Sounds like a real nice place to live there ninja.  I have to drive 15+ miles either way to get to a home depot, ( I goto the tractor supply ) and I hope it stays that way, but there are others here, that have to drive much further than I.

I always love to hear the bright side of things. Thanks!! I would have never thought of that and it is a good thing. A great thing. I have noticed most everyone slowing down and not driving like dip S#!ts as much with the high gas prices. Myself included, that is a good thing as well.  Very Happy Very Happy

But only if the added sales to locals out way the cost of bringing in the products on a truck.  Then there are involuntary things like the long drive to work or school.  Just thought of Pizza Hut's delivery and the price of gas.  After moving to a semi rural area we combined trips to multiple stores to make the most of the gasoline.

Yeah , good point  :ninjageek  , with UK petrol prices around $9 USD for a American gallon and our conjested roads, I don't use either miles or time to get there, just the cost , and is it cheaper and quicker to walk , often is ,

LMAO, I know what you mean. One of my first enjoyable thinjgs out here too.

And weird as it might sound. I enjoy my annual bonfire that is allowed out here in the boonies. Yeah, I cut in the rental yards and here (30+ trees in the backyard ), and in the middle of november we have a huge weiny roast for S#!ts and giggles.
