I honestly don't see where your coming. I own a Second Hand shop in Pennsylvania and business has dropped! My store is 45 minutes away from home and we put $20 in the truck everyday, and my store has only been making $50-$100 a day instead of $500 a day. My business has completely died and I think since gas went up they don't want to stop. It's not even worth opening anymore, were considering selling the place. But I guess I am glad at least it is working for someone else

Stick it out, be one that rides the storm. There are so many companies folding , and or selling out around me, that I feel as if I have to stay just for the reason that I will survive. Although prospects are beginning to look up, it's flat out tough! These are the days when those that are still there when it's over, will have much less competition then they did . I've had my own businesses for the past15+ years, and I know how it can be, but I have to say, not as easy as before.

Self employment is always scary. I have stuck it out for 30 years now. There is always ups and downs. But damn it no one can fire me, and if I want the day off, I literally just take it.
The first two years in any business is slow. If I were you I'd be thinking of ways to promote instead of running. Many folks will soon be looking for second hand instead of new. it only stands to reason. Try fliers in laundramats, little local paper ads, coupons. But if you wanna quit it is up to you. Believe me I thought there were many times I wanted to quit. Very glad indeed I didn't though.

YeaH RIGHT NOW HAS BEEN A WEIRD TIME TO START A business
Like I Am
Im starting an advertising business and so far so good
I am advertising local and local business in Austin tx
but then againt hats is easy since in Austin 96% of the business are consider small as they employed 500 ppl or less 94% of them employ 50 or less
See im in the right market
People want to advertise their business esp right now so it has been easy to convince ppl they need advertising not so easy to to convince them to drop $300 or more
I would tell you to keep at it
also right now is a good time to start a business since land is being sold cheap and I was able to get an interest rate of 3.9%
Im starting actually 3 companies this summer
B&E Adertising -- advertise to local buissness
The Kill Productions -- advertising for small bands and musicians
The Kill Am -- and a radio station i hope to get up by Sep 10
Cost so far --- about $70k

Well, sadly this whole problem is complex on several levels and I would like to promise you that John McCain’s and Hillary Clinton’s gas tax holiday is like putting a band-aid on a detached body part. Barack Obama is right to criticize the gas tax holiday but, is wrong about investigating (government) price-gouging, fuel efficiency standards and investing (government) in alternative fuels. It’s going to take multiple items of action to get fuel prices down. We need fewer regulations that interfere with the market of fuel and the development of alternative fuels. The Iraq War has already reduced production by more than 50% which causes prices to rise and the threat of war with Iran also causes prices to rise; extend the hand of trade with Iran and you’ll see oil prices drop dramatically. I haven’t even touched the American money supply and the effects it has on oil prices.

But as always we still need alternative fuels. As long as we are as dependant on the oil as bad as we are it will always continue any time they please. When you supply your own. Then you are way ahead of the game.
