"Not one minute can be wasted. One minute, one second could mean a child's life," - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, a geologist by training.
"Time is life. Make fighting the earthquake and rescue work the current top task," - official announcement from Communist Party Standing Committee.
"We had just finished lunch and were getting ready to go back to class. As soon as I left the building, everything started shaking. I don't know how many of my friends are alive," - Zhang Zhiyin, a student in Dujiangyan.
