Need a car guy / Mechanic

Ok ive got a question for all you automotive buffs out there.
So its raining here in sarasota florida, like hurricane type storms.. Grounds are wet, like mad wet. So im at a stop light, and the light turns green. I have a 5 speed manual so of course when i released the clutch a bit too quickly, the tires spun. Well in order to avoid a ticket for improper take off ( again ) i quickly shifted to second and dumped the clutch fully. next thing i know i see smoke ( yes, smoke even thru the rain ) and smell burning. I know its my clutch , and not my tires.... Especially in the rain. My question to you guys is why the HELL did my clutch burn like that and the tires not spin like it normally would followed by grab and go?
its a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt ; 2.2 liter
only has 50,200 miles on the car, bought it brand new.
Could my clutch already be going out? i mean is that possible? i know it was the clutch burning and not the tires because burning trannys and clutches have a very distinctive smell.. but my question is just that.. why did the clutch sit there and burn, when not even engaged , and the tires not just spin if they were going to?

I would guess you are hard on the clutch to begin with, and " dumping " or we used to call it side stepping the clutch , puts a lot of pressure on it. Once they slip, say bye bye, they glaze up, and just get worse, you may not notice it going bad if you drive normal, but then when you do what you did, being glazed, well, you dumpped it, and had high rpm's , a glazed clutch already, so you fried it.
Being so new, it has a hydraulic clutch, I can't stand hydraulic clutches, my new wrangler has one, and the thing doesn't engage until the pedal is 2" from the top.

Did it feel like it slipped?
You put a ton of miles on it really fast, it could very well be going if you started to smell burning. I would have it looked at ASAP

lol exactly the same as mine, except the jeeps have LUK clutches and tans. which are VERY well made.
The reason om asking, is because this car runs like brand new, ive never had slipping, ive never had any kind of hesitation , hell the clutch pressure is exactly the same as it was when i first bought it.. Theirs no jerking, no wining, nothing. I mean this is seriously just out of the blue. After this happened the cars temperature ( coolant temp that is ) actually shot up 25 deg. its not like my old car where i noticed it was going ouit because it took a minute to grab or anything, i mean this is really the first time i have ever felt anything like this out of this car... only tiny thing i ever noticed is that when shifting from 5th to 4th if needing to pass someone is sometimes it will have a slight grind.
so....?

The whole temp shot up thing has me wondering if you blew out a sofplug. That would make the clutch slip, and loss of coolant would obviously make the temp go up. Anything leaking ? Sometimes you wont notice right away, because of the bell housing, you'de know if it did though, right ?

No no nothing like that. No coolant, no man. grease or anything leaking. From under it everything looks fine, from what i can see , engine wise everything is fine. After a bit of driving, and having the ac on it cooled right back down.. no leaks from the pumpkin either. after it cools down a bi im going to give it a whirl around the block and see what we have...
Im not going to lie, ive beaten the dog piss out of this car and yet it still keeps on truckin. or... carr...in.... whatever.
Ive roasted a set of dealership tires right off this thing when i first bought it.. and i mean f*kin right off.. from 11/32s of tread to 4/32 in a weeks time. usually if im trying to be a moron and just spin them for S#!ts and giggles, it will spin in first, ill shift at 5 grand, than spin in second , again, shifting at 5 grand than once in 3rd the car doesnt have the power to go any further and it just boggs down... but like i said this time, it spun andi shifted, im not sure if the tires were spinning too, i just know that their was a barrel of smoke behind me and bad smell comming thru the car... i really like the smell of freshly burnt tires, but this smell was putrid..
I shifted at 5 grand again and once in second it got quiet except for the engine rev of course... than the smoke..

see thats the thing, i dont know if its bad yet or not, i mean if it is i dont care.. its got bumper to bumper coverage and i have mechanical break down coverage thru my insurance company, so the bill will be paid off either way... its just the weirdest thing.. it wasnt a slip i dont think... but it was...... LOL that makes no sense i know but after driving it a bit the clutch pressure pretty much restored itself , which it was designed to do.. since it is a self-adjusting hydraulic clutch but i was just wondering if that the first sign that my clutch is going.

I would say that clutch is pretty much almost gone. If you insurance company pays for it that would be cool, pretty much your car warranty wont cover it cause its a normal wear and tear part

*chuckles* Its fried bro, just like they said, the reason it grabbed later was the glazing cooled down a bit. I am serious, I'd have it in the shop by....monday. No later, unless you like the weather for walking.

Heck, bring it over, I'll fix it first thing in the morning. Right before I tackle the heater core in my Navajo. Just about got everything fixed back up in it.
And I'll fix you breakfast instead.
