If the clutch got hot enough to smoke, you better have them replace the rear main seal while they are in there replacing the clutch kit (drive plate, pressure plate and release bearing). And possibly the input shaft seal on the gearbox (transaxle). Chances are also pretty good that the flywheel will need to be replaced or resurfaced. It has taken a lot of abuse in those 50k miles. You may have to push them to get them to do all of that under the protection plan, but it needs to be done.

Just a bit of friendly advice from an ASE certified master auto technician.  Wink

I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'm just suggesting you get it fixed once. However, if you enjoy taking your car to the shop many times, I would never try to talk you out of it. Just keep in mind that neither the rear main seal nor the front gearbox seal can be replaced without removing the gearbox and it will already be out when they replace the clutch. Also keep in mind that no mechanic I know of gets paid for selling parts. Just labor.  Rolling Eyes

Hey, I would not have a problem with his continued visits. Money in the bank. Especially when things have to be continually be broke down. The m ore you take things apart and put them back togather the looser they all fit. Friction of the threads. But like I said, I made way more money on repairs instead of real jobs. Well it is that way in construction.

So repair, repair repair...$ $ $ $

Noones being pissy. Its comments like this one , with embedded personal feelings that make a forum turn from a forum, which its supposed to be .... to a chat room.  undecided Forums are posts within threads , within topics relating to a common cause. When you start giving pet names to people and start making posts more than they need to be and once again, incorporating feelings into them it becomes off-topic chat.

-  The salesman thing was a joke, hence the  " lol Rolling Eyes "  yes, you are correct .. i did ask for advice, and about 15 posts back, the thread topic was solved, ended and closed.. Now its just continuous " replace this, replace that " . Seriously, its cool lol.  No oil leaks, no seals damaged, no repercussion other than less clutch peddle pressure, and possibly shorter clutch life , as previously stated.  Mabey on the older non-hydraulic clutches that may have been the kiss of death... or mabey i just got real lucky.  Mad  Either way, its pretty much ok, ive got 800 miles on the car since the incident and still running strong ( well as strong as a 2.2 liter can be )  with a lil bit of jerk here and there when letting off the accelerator after long trips.

I recommended pushing them to replace the seals because often times excessive heat can cause problems down the road (no pun intended). The seals probably aren't leaking now, but in a couple thousand miles they may be. In my experience as a mechanic, people don't understand that after the fact. But if I recommend a certain part while I'm doing a job, and they decline it at that time, then they can't complain when that part fails soon afterward.

Just my 2¢
