Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) of the Philippines wins fight against David "Dangerous" Diaz (34-2-1, 17 KOs) of the USA in their WBC Lightweight Championship Match today in Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The "Pacman" dethroned the "Dangerous" boxer via a knockout in 2:24 of the 9th round, giving Manny his 4th world title, one title short of being a golden boy.
Pacquiao outpunched and outboxed the much bigger Diaz who was obviously suffering from Manny's powerful blows since the first round. In fact, Manny caused Diaz a cut in the upper side part of his right eye, contributing to a heartbreaking loss to the latter.
Manny has shown great improvements in his boxing abilities. He delivered strong right jab punches since the first round which eventually opened fellow southpaw Diaz's defense in the 9th round and gave Manny the opportunity to knock him out with a powerful left.
On top of his strong punching power and superb speed, Manny has displayed the result of his new conditioning program. He never got tired. It was really amazing how Manny moved around the four corners of the ring to avoid the brawler boxing style of David Diaz. Manny's coaching staff headed by trainer Freddy Roach was successful in their strategic plan to have Manny not to get too close to Diaz, to be patient, and then consistently attack with those right jabs.
Today is definitely one of the greatest days in boxing history. Filipinos all over the world are rejoicing for another sweet victory of Manny Pacquiao, the Philippines "Pambansang Kamao".
