The latest events in the Megan Meier MySpace suicide case took place
Monday, when Missouri governor Matt Blunt signed into law a bill which
revised the the state's already existing harassment law to include
telephone and electronic communication.

Those under 21 would face only a misdemeanor, but for adults, this is a felony, with a sentence of up to four years in prison.

The
Megan Meier case caught the attention of the nation when it brok. A
teenage girl committed suicide after a MySpace romance went bad. The
romance itself and the boy involved were in fact fictional, perpetrated
as a vindictive prank by the mother of a former friend who lived down
the street.

The suicide occurred in October of 2006, though her
parents did not find out the truth until months later. In November of
2007, Megan's home town, Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, unable to find an
applicable law to charge anyone with, created one which bans Internet harassment.

The new law extends protection across the entire state.

Lori Drew, the adult perpetrator of the "prank," has been charged
with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected
computers without authorization. The charges each carry a maximum of 5
years in prison.

Megan's mother, Tina Meier, believes more should be done nationally.

"This is certainly not the end. Bullying and cyberbullying is something that
takes place every day. This is not just one case with Megan."

I honestly think that there should be a nation wide law passed to protect against this kind of bullying. It's sad to see how beautiful people can be easily fooled and ultimately end their lives over a crude bully prank. I believe that this law passed in Missouri, should also apply to this nation. This is just my point of view. I'm sorry for the ones that have lost someone for something said over the internet. It's sad but teenagers take it to the heart.

Cyberbullying takes lives, if you wouldn't say it in person, why say it online? Don't start it, don't forward it.

The same thing happens in   REAL LIFE   remember that thing ?   H'bout if they don't like you there, go somewhere else !  I'm not condoning any of the nasty things people do to each other online, all I'm saying is , go outside, get some air, ride a bike or hell, even write down your feelings. There's no need to allow people to get in your head like this.

That's whats so sad, it just eats them, and they don;t have the backbone to deal with it, I hate everyone equally and always will, what you say doesn't reflect who I am, I'm me. But kids don't always see it like I do, it's just sad to me. Neutral

Sure, it;s sad, but it's life, this has been going on since the dawn of man, survival of the fittest ( in a way ).

We nurture  and coddle our young to the point they cannot think for themselves, and rely on others to tell them who they are.

Givem all a blue ribbon, so they don't feel left out, so when they get into the real world, and have to fend for themselves, they look to someone, or something to lead them instead of thinking for themselves, the incentives are taken away to thrive, to push forward and be an individual.         That...............is what's sad. Our young are the by product of the masses , and the society they live in,  there thoughts echo the mental inadequacies of past generations to take personal action towards true individualism.  To change this would complete a full circle of the same only to disrupt another balance of natural life.   Responsibility !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So why would you brand a generation a failure ?  The only failure here is the fact that there are people that are allowed to stay on welfare for a living. And the person that thinks he's messianic ( obama ) wants to make it easier to get on it, and stay on it.

Very true, we just take things for grant, these days is what I was trying to say. We don't really have to earn anything until were out on our own, and it's sad that we get it this easy. Then again there's others that love to work, I love being able to have money in my pocket whenever I need it, or have it in the bank when I need it. I'm just saying how people take things as if they were given to them, and show no kindness to others that have helped them in the past. I just see no 'responsibility'. And all we need now and days to threaten is a damn cell phone or a computer, were no longer standing face to face, were saying S#!t behind peoples back, that we just laughed with two hours previous. And I'm not saying this entire generation is like this, a select few are like this, and our the ones that make your life hell. GEEK!

Thats why my girls earn points in almost everything they do. For one its competition to be faster than sis, and the other they earn it. I am proud of them already. They get things for nothing still, but they also know what it is to earn at an early age. They keep their room usually spotless, and they are  7 and 8 years,  azn  And they take real good care of their stuff.  cool

 They are very good girls.

See your one of the good ones that shows great interest in there offspring, there's too many that just see them as a check at the beginning of the month, or a bother in general.

cool to see someone else that does the point system...my grdaughter lives with me and we hve this complex point system where she earns points for making my life easy in the morning by remembering what she has to do and extra credit points for other stuff and she spends those points to do special stuff like skating tv computer sleepovers movies and other special stuff and she also can lose big points for really naughty stuff like lying stealing and hurting someone on purpose...and at the end of the week her allowence depends on how many points she has earned.
i talk to other parents at school and at first they think i'm crazy but in the end they want copies of my sheets...
teaches them to take responsibility...doesn't always work tho...my kids come over and they say "awwww...reminds us of our childhood"...one of my son's (my grdaughters father was on that same system...and he takes responsibility for nothing) so in the end it depends on the person i guess...i just want her to know that if she doesn't make her bed and i have to tell her, she hasn't taken care of her responsibilities (example)
