front panel jacks

hey i built a new computer and the front microphone/speaker jacks arent working.. i connected everything correctly to the mobo and stuff. the front usb ports are working fine but the microphone and speaker jack dont.
rear ones work correctly also. im running vista x86
EDIT: it doesnt detect the headset in the jack either.

You are sure your drivers are ok? Im sure you already checked that but you gotta always ask. Perhaps get a ohm meter and see if it is faulty hardware?

Check your manual for the motherboard to see if you have jumpers for the Audio. If you do, the manual will show you were they are and were they need to be to make the front audio ports work.

Looking at the motherboard on the left side in the middle of the board. Just above the PCI slots is where most of the motherboard put the jumpers. What motherboard do you have?
