Swine Flu website last updated April 27, 2009 1:00 PM ET
U.S. Human Cases of Swine Flu Infection
(As of April 27, 2009 1:00 PM ET) State    # of laboratory
confirmed cases
California    7 cases
Kansas    2 cases
New York City    28 cases
Ohio    1 case
Texas    2 cases
TOTAL COUNT    40 cases
International Human Cases of Swine Flu Infection
See: World Health OrganizationExternal Web Site Policy.

Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in the United States. Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection also have been identified internationally. The current U.S. case count is provided below.

An investigation and response effort surrounding the outbreak of swine flu is ongoing.

CDC is working very closely with officials in states where human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) have been identified, as well as with health officials in Mexico, Canada and the World Health Organization. This includes deploying staff domestically and internationally to provide guidance and technical support.

CDC activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the agency's response to this emerging health threat and yesterday the Secretary of the Department Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, declared a public health emergency in the United States. This will allow funds to be released to support the public health response. CDC's goals during this public health emergency are to reduce transmission and illness severity, and provide information to assist health care providers, public health officials and the public in addressing the challenges posed by this newly identified influenza virus. To this end, CDC has issued a number of interim guidance documents in the past 24 hours. In addition, CDC's Division of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) is releasing one-quarter of its antiviral drugs, personal protective equipment, and respiratory protection devices to help states respond to the outbreak. Laboratory testing has found the swine influenza A (H1N1) virus susceptible to the prescription antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir. This is a rapidly evolving situation and CDC will provide updated guidance and new information as it becomes available.

Well I normally wouldn't do this, but considering the possible seriousness in this one, I see it as necessary.

I just cannot believe the response to this flu. It does not appear to be a big deal, no deaths in America. Mexico is hard to gauge by due to substandard public health and utilities in much of the country. The flu doesnt really kill you, usually its pneumonia or dehydration which is caused by the flu and both are easily treatable (in 99% of cases).

I dont know if they know something they arent telling us but from the health care point of view something doesnt jive here. I cant put my finger on it though..... I have worked with Flu Season as a nurse for 10 years and my last 6 years have required me to contact the CDC and keep our building up to date and in serviced.... Im telling you this is just abnormal. Not to mention its outside of flu season here AND this is a hybrid flu. Some what comon in Asia but not here...

I know, and I agree, so I'll go ahead and say it, does it surprise anyone that just last month we put several thousand more people on the boarder, then this ? Hmm, could it be a planted ploy instead of violence, just plant a virus, and watch them scatter. Think about it, it makes sense, now whether we want ot believe it is another thing.

So is is true that if you do get sick from this thing, what might kill you is the fluid in the lungs, if so , you could drain the lungs , and live happily ever after.

:haha: Laughing I don't know if that's funny or not,  They have already discussed that exact thing, but the decision was , at least as far as I know, it would be useless at this point, spring breakers and all.

Thats what blows my mind. There does not appear to be any difficulty treating this flu but yet it is being blown up to epidemic proportions. Many people didnt know that last years flu was quite bad and somewhat resistant to our anti virals. Seemed to be a much bigger deal than this.... Im watching and waiting for something to make sense as far as this flu goes.

Jon Stewart said it best.

SNOUTBREAK !!!

I remember back in 76 when a pandemic was predicted and millions of tax dollars was wasted on flu shots.

The pandemic didn't happen.

In fact only 2 people died from it.

More than 70 died as a result of bad reactions to the flu shots.

Stewart also mocked Fox News when they reported 6 possible cases of MILD swine flu in Canada and brought up a map showing the entire country bright red.

Cable news channels should be required by law to broadcast at least once per hour warning that watching their channel could lead to mass stupidity.

Its funny you say that. It seems EVERY year the only people in my building to get flu are the people who took the vaccine.
