hey guys
i just tried customizing my bootscreen( win xp sp2)
but the bootscreen just wont change sad
I did it the manual way using Resource Hacker
I googled the topic, found a lot of pages showing the same thing/ technique
did all that they suggested, and came out with zero results cry cry cry
each time i rebooted expecting to see the custom bootscreen
i was greeted by the win xp one as if it was mocking me!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked
i checked the sys32 to find that xp created a copy of the orig ntoskrnl.exe
on every reboot Shocked Shocked Shocked
is there a walkaround to this idiotic situation???
help!!!!

What did you use, or put in place of the boot screen ? I played with this once before, but it's been some time ago. I ended up doing it in "msconfig" and just checking the box that says noguiboot, or something like that. So you get nothing.  :haha:

But obviously you want something there. So I looked around and found Bootskin , and there library of VERY cool skins.

I found this info here , since I'm not sure what, or how you tried this, this is all I have, if you get it to work, post up for the rest of us.

Or if you can't then post what's going on, and we'll see whats up.

thnx muddy and multicav for the suggestions grin grin grin
but the thing is I dont wanna use a software/program for this everywhere i checked it said that it is possible
to modify the ntoskrnl.exe file using resource hacker and yea mudman i alredy checked that site link which you posted
>the thing that pisses me off is:
>>I edit the 'ntoskrnl.exe' file. On reboot I finds that Xp created 'ntoskrnl_original.exe'
>>I edit the 'ntoskrnl_original.exe' file. On reboot I finds that Xp created 'ntoskrnl_original_original.exe'
This happened even after replacing the hacked files in safe mode
WTF When did Xp get so smart so as to create copies of original files that were edited??? Shocked Shocked Shocked
PS: I even edited the ntkrnlpa.exe file though i dont know wht exactly the file does expecting that to do the trick
but same S#!t angry angry angry Xp creates copies of it too!!!
it was funny in the beginning but now it's not funny anymore!!!
I spent half of my day yest behind this trying to figure it out!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

As with the rest of these "self creating" files of MS, just change the name of the file, and or the extension, see what you get, just remember what you did, because I played , and lost the boot file, then you have to re install.

See thats the right way to change your boot screen, without all the "extra baggage" of another program on your machine, specifically for this. I admire your enthusiasm Smile The most you ned is resource hacker, right ?

There is a free download of paintshop pro , but check the md5 before installing. I didn't see one along side the installation, but it may be in the package in a text file.

If thats what your looking for.
