Ya know Tommie....I still think one of GM's biggest mistakes was the elimination of the 327....in 1957 you could order a pick up truck with it ....that boasted 375 HP....having worked for GM for over 9 years...dropping that engine was a F#@& up...cause any time the HP rating is higher than the CID....it's a win...really makes me sad.. Heck yeah, and the 302 Z-28 wasn't a bad one either @290 ponies. Yeah they let the good ones die off.

I meant that they had trouble letting it go back to them for a sale. If it was so bad. like they liked it or something. My mom had one, not bad for power for its size, but it burned a bit of oil. And my auto mechanics teacher said the main problem with them in the leaks department was the fact that it was both aluminum head and block. If they had gone with cast heads they would have been alright. But too much and it would warp (well with the technology they had in the sixties ) He used to race and mechanic for the Petty Bros. He was old Smiling Jack.  angel And mean he smiled all the time. But boy could he build a street machine.

Roco that would be some great bhp from a 256 so I can see why you like the Citreon.Triumph has the only crank mounted fan I have ever seen on a car.But I have never even seen a Citreon like yours except in a picture.
The Triumph was water cooled & the fan speed was really too slow for the climate here.So it barely kept from overheating it the summer & sometimes did.
The only Solexs I ever say here were two one barrels on the same intake.
The Holley /Weber on the Ford 2300 4cyl is a progresive linkage 2-barrel like the Solex you have on the Citeron. But IMO not a good carb after several years wear.No new ones available & rebuilts have the same wear problems since the problem parts are not replaced. The one on my car has already went to the machine shop to have front throttle shaft bushings put in.This carb didn't originally have bushings in this area.Several miles had worn the aluminum housing & it leaked air into the carb.Making idle setting impossible. The rear throttle now could use the same & the front is begining to show some play again.Other not replaceable parts because of no longer being manufacture have wear from the fuel that has been through them.Almost enough on this carb but the electric choke it has doesn't work well either. The early version of this carb had a coolant heated choke this worked much better but had leak problems with age.
Aggr3 ;I think you must have meant 1967 on the 327 not 1957.The 283 would have been the largest small block Cheverolet engine available in 1957.I'm not sure of the exact year of the 327 debut but I would say maybe in a 1960 Corvette & some trucks.I like the 327 also except they could have developed a 4 bolt main version.

I did some surfing on the 327 Chevrolet CID & it's first year was 1962.In 1957 the 265 CID would have been the common Chevrolet V8 engine.283 CID was available in 1957 .I know because my 1957 Chevrolet Station Wagon had a 283 CID that was the original. The block numbers matched the car. Also this one had the cast iron Powerglide automatic transmission. It was a 4door & not a Nomad.I sold it a long time ago.I wish I still had it now.
