Thanks for the correction Sequoia , just been looking up Exclusive economic zone,( and I stand corrected on that ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclusive_Economic_Zone
but good to see Britain  has drilling rights there as well ,
lol the battle for oil is on , everone is saying it's our oil , it isn't it belongs to the world , IMHO,
but as long as folk keep thinking F**k the other guy I am bigger than him , this mess will continue , already  food is going the same way , money went that way a long time ago , evolution has been modified , no longer survival of the fitest , but by the fatest
just my thoughts

on the 200 mile Exclusive economic zone , that takes the UK within spitting distance of Berlin , and the French on the doorstep of Manchester, midlands UK ,
as a new  European I am now kinda proud of the EU, it has it's problems without a doubt , but is the peacefull way forward for us , we done with  full scale wars 60 odd years back , we paid the price on that , OK the UK fuel is expensive  about $8.50 for a USA gallon , but 78% is tax , it never was cheap in the UK, so we can live with that , and it gives free Bus and Train to many folk , and if it helps a school kid to get to school , and a pensioner to get out and about ,  and a disabled person the right to a free cab to a  shopping mall ,  I am happy to pay the price ,

I learnt a long time back the world dosn't revolve around Me, Me, Me ,  and sharing for the common good isn't that painfull ,

again as I have always said no insults intended etc , but  if you read it otherwise ...........thats your problem ,

regards and full respect from
Roco ...UK

The Chinese are not experienced enough, have a very bad enviromental record so they probably care little about an oil spill. You know who will end up with the enviromental problem when the Chinese screw up & oil is all over the American Gulf Coast states. So we need to do the drilling & give Cuba the share we deem fair.

well said...

I learnt a long time back the world dosn't revolve around Me, Me, Me ,  and sharing for the common good isn't that painfull ,

that's the way i feel too...so we drill cuz we know what we're doing and give cuba their fair share...

Roco ; No offense taken by me.I just believe the USA needs to control the drilling in this area.Mostly to avoid an environmental disaster.& to take our share which should be considerably larger than Cubas'.I think there would be plenty left for Cuba especially since it would go to a dictator & not the Cuban citizens anyway.I still think the USA should just take Cuba & make it a territory & eventually a state.Since that would be taking something because we're
bigger that's the way I feel about it.
If the USA would just keep it's money here & quit spending it on foreign aid & wars like Iraq then we would have plenty to take care of our own citizens.Probably could even subsidize the fuel costs.
So we are already taxed plenty & more generous to countries around the world with foreign aid than any other nation. So since I pay taxes & have no choice for it to be all about ME I guess I'm generous by proxy.
sharing for the common good

So how about the rest of the world sharing for the common good like the USA.
I wish the European Union well & hope they become even more prosperous in the world economy. For one reason so they can share for the common good.
My other reason has to do with prophecy so I already know the EU will grow in power as well. Then see how they act as the big guy.Especially if you go against them.
I do believe the Exclusive economic zone only covers seabed if I interpreted it correctly. So it wouldn't include dry land.

Hi guy's lol I nearly got on a rant back there , we see things a bit diferent ,
: viva la difference  I guess , I have never ment any direct insult to the USA or any forum member  , same as any other country , and certainly none  taken here ,

at the end of the day we are all in the same boat ,who needs the oil most , do I have the right to it more (given I have free bus transport all across the UK ), or does the 3 rd world guy taking his goat to market on a small motorcycle to feed his family , while his kids sew shirts for 50 cents a 12 hour day, so I can buy a shirt for $5.50 , ?
Back on topic ,
many claim there is no shortage of oil , if so why is it $4.00 USD a gallon ?
the world has a finite stock of oil , it's consumption is going to double in the next 5 years ,
and quadruple within 10 years at the current rate of demand   ,
no doubt much more will be found , Russia has vast untaped stocks , so maybe then it will be ass kissing time , or it maybe another star on the flag ???,  stranger things have happend in the past "Berlin Wall" ,I was over there when it happened ,W Germany was not happy at that ,at the time ,1989 ,
My aplogises Mudmanc if my asking for a link to slant drilling offended , as a engineer I was trying to visulize drilling at a angle over 50 miles , hitting the oil
field  mud plugging the entry point , and making the connection , and yes I do study links on any engineering subject that I don't understand , it's a old habit as a development engineer , but to be honeest I always doubted the theory that the moon was made of cheese,  and Mars had canals , latest reports seem to show it may have had rivers ,

Diesel now in the UK @ $10.4  USD per American gallon , this has risen food prices by around 20 % in the UK ,hitting the poor and pensioners hard ,

Petrol now at $9.16 USD for a US gallon , I now walk any journey under 3 miles if there is no bus availible , and cycle any journey under 10 miles  if I don't need to carry anything heavy ,
This great topic that goes way back to April 2005  then around $2 USD a gallon ( and we was complaing back then ) shows the stepening fuel cost climb , and for those that think it will get cheaper " dream on " ,
IMHO , the S#!t has hit the fan ,
Regards ( the Prophet of doom )  evil6

I for one do nto think you need to be doing so much apologizing really. Everyone has opinions, and solutions to problems. And americans could also do with more cycling. But then again its 5 miles where I live to town. For a few its impossible to pedal so far. Although it would not hurt my wife of 100+ overweight pouinds to work a bit off.  :haha: :haha:

But she insists they do not make her size of seat. And she may not be lying.   evil
