What exactly is overclocking? Can this be done to my 2.2GHz Intel Celeron? Overclocking your hardware means tweaking it beyond it advertised specs. 1 example would be overclocking/tweaking a 1GHz CPU to run at 1.2GHz. If your careful overclocking can be somewhat useful, but if you do something wrong you could ruin the piece of hardware you're trying to overclock.

OCing is the best way to save money. As long as you OC properly you have nothing to worry about except a faster computer. If you want help with the guide let me know, i am also quite experienced in it

I would say tweaking your operating system for a performance gain is a lot safer than over-clocking hardware. Over-clocking key components are lots of cooling, quality hardware, moderation, and patience.

They can be...its just most of the mobos don't have options to change voltages fsb etc.... would say tweaking your operating system for a performance gain is a lot safer than over-clocking hardware. Over-clocking key components are lots of cooling, quality hardware, moderation, and patience. You can tweek the hell outa your OS and not get even close to the performance increase you would get from a mild OC. You can OC some even on a stock heatsink, just depends on the chip. MY Athlon 2500 mobile runs at the speed of a 3200 at 1.6 Vcore. I can put the worst possible heatsink on it and the temps are fine. ;)

Yet tweaking your operating system won’t fry your CPU.

Is it possible to OC a retail machine? I have a Emachines. (yea, yea whatever) I've read that some BIOS's have overclockable settings. Is it just the "home built" mobos you can OC?

what you have is plenty for a cs server more than you need you might consider buying more ram or getting a faster internet connection...thats about it
