lets wait and find out, then pass judgement, but those look like VDSL/VDSL 2 speeds, and yes there is/was an ADSL2, it just kinda flopped... but those speeds seem poor compared to fiber speeds, but over bonded copper, what can i say.

i dont think a standard dsl line could handle 9/3.....but again, will all dsl, the limiting factor is distance. You need to get less than 100 feet from the co for 9/3 service..... i could honestly see it happening.

I had Bellsouth for a year...had their dsl light package...paid 35 bucks a month for it...got 30 kbs down and 10 kbs up........now i got cable.......i pay 10 bucks more a month.......now i get this

i have family that works for bellsouth an they hate the cable........i never told them i switched.

I dont care what anyone says... Bellsouth is great. I had all 3 of there dsl's and i currently have Xtreme and couldnt be happier. I had adelphia and 1st of all their customer/tech support is awful, they dont know what they are talkin bout cuz i had them come to my house 3 times for the internet and they never found a problem even though the internet was eather slow or offline. 2nd, the ping i had with them SUCKED (i play cs and my neighbor who has BS ultra, always had lower ping then me). The only good thing w/ cable is the DL speed i always had 500+kB/s. Now for BS everything is awsome, the pings are always low >50, and i constantly DL at 370kB/s. PLUS dsl is more reliable.... 

You must all know the wrong person then.  BellSouth has publicly announced they'll be offering a 6meg service, but the upstream isn't going to be 1.5.  ADSL doesn't even support upstream that high.
They have made no announcements about 9meg service so that's pure speculation and rumors.  Which doesn't seem to matter much to anyone on this forum.

Plus, the original poster wasn't claiming they were going to ADD a new 6meg service, he claimed they were going to upgrade all their customers to higher speeds and had an imaginary chart to "support" that claim.  The chart was 100% wrong too.

I had to add my 2cents into this discussion.  First of all, DSL can never be as fast as cable because of the simple fact that DSL runs on unshielded ~26 awg wire.  Cable is shielded 20 - 22 awg wire currently capable of carrying hundreds of digital channels and up to gigabit data speeds .  In many cases the DSL cable (old PSTN stuff) was put in before my dad was in diapers.

This internet 2 stuff.  I've never heard of that.  Sounds like an email rumor.

Fiber is capable of much greater speeds than 800Mbits.  OC192 is 10GBits and that can travel over 50km (and probably farther) over a single fiber pair.  In fact, using DWDM, a provider can shove as many as 100 (or more) OC192 connections down a single fiber pair .  That's about 1Tbit I believe.  How many fiber pair are in a single cable?

Gigabit to the house?  Absolutely not (yet).  The internet backbone cannot handle this.  The problem their having is on the fastest connections, they can't get the transistors to switch in the ICs fast enough to handle that kind of bandwidth.  OC768 is the maximum single connection currently capable (40GBits) and few manufacturers can provide that and that could only handle 40 houses at top speed (if they were running 1GBit).  Just with a little math, you can figure that if you see someone offering a 1GBit connection, it's either very expensive or a marketing scam.

Fiber to the house is coming and is in place in many new subdivisions.  Don't expect 1GBit though.  I would say 5 - 10Mbits at the top end and probably not that fast.  It's not a matter of fiber's capabilities, it's a matter of the speed required on internet routers and cost of bandwidth to the upper tier providers.

Many people don't even understand bandwidth.  10GBit ethernet is out and has been out for some time too.  If anyone doesn't know, that approximately the speed of transferring an entire 4.7GByte DVD in 4 seconds.  95% of the computer out their in homes or in businesses can't even handle 1GBit speeds.  Sure the SATA connections is 150MBytes (not bits), but the drive's physical transfer speed maxes out at 40 to 50 on a really fast SATA drive.  The 32bit 33MHz PCI bus is completely saturated when transferring at 1GBit.  Many computer processors would be heavily taxed to build IP packets at a full 1GBit.

Like I said, just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

There certainly seem to be a lot of 'experts' on this board. Here's the official word that I received from Bell back in June regarding the new product.

As part of this new DSL product, BellSouth will be introducing new network technology known as ADSL2+.  This new technology will allow BellSouth to provision DSL service at higher speeds over longer loops.  Because of this introduction, BellSouth will also be introducing two new loop qualification codes in LQS.  These two new codes will be associated with both loop length, and technology type, used to qualify a specific location for 6Meg service.  These two new codes are:

A3 – This qualifies a location at 5.5Kft using ADSL technology.
A9 – This qualifies a location at 8.0Kft using ADSL2+ technology.

If you plan to offer your customers 6Meg service using the A9 (ADSL2+) qualification, you will need to use ADSL2+ CPE in order to achieve the full benefits of the new 6Meg service.
