whenever i go to bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and do a speed test my download speed is 5Mbps and above. usually like 5.1 or 5.2. but everytime i do a test on testmy.net its like 2.4 or 2.5 Mbps. why is that? i have an emachines 633MHz computer with 192mb of ram and windows ME. forgot to mention its intel celeron processor.

Well I dont know why that happens,but testmy.net is the most accurate testing site in the world,so what you get here is most likely your true speed,and if thats the case there is something wrong.I have Earthlink too and I get what I pay for,maybe frequent disconnections lately but speed is always up to par Smile

Could be your distance from testmy.  I'm located in Maine, so my speed tests are usually slower than the Adelphia test sites are.  Also, it depends on the size of the test file downloaded as well.  Smaller files give faster results, from what I've seen.
Still:
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 3330 Kbps about 3.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 406 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Tue Jun 07 2005 20:25:39 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Bottom Line:: 59X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.52 sec
Diagnosis: Looks Great : 7.94 % faster than the average for host (adelphia.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-Y69AK37QX
Not bad for a 4 Mb connection........

Exactly. Cox has already begun upgrading to 9/1 , verizon is leading in speeds, Comcast is even faster then us now a days...Once FIOS is avaliable in my area, the day i find out im ordering.

I mean, i love Earthlink... have for years now. But 40 kbs upload is not worth my money when folks are paying less then me down the road a few miles and are getting 15/2 's .

in a PC World subscriber poll of American ISPs, Earthlink cable scored the highest.  I'd link to the article but I can't find it online, I got the mag.
