69 RAT I think the program that shows my CPU reads it as more use than it really is.Because my PC runs pretty well considering its processor is a pentium 3 450 MHz.My internal dialup is a "winmodem" that uses the cpu.

69 RAT ; Just to refresh my memory didn't the lsass.exe problem begin with the install of Silent Hunter 3?

If it did, it wasn't obvious right away. I started trying to install SHIII a few days before the error  happend on that Sat.( six times, I think) But Sat I was doing what their support guys said to do "end processes on everything but system tray and explorer.exe." But with XP you can't do that(I should know better) there are many items that won't "end". So as I'm doing this(ending processes) a few did end but several would not via a warning but when I came to lsass.exe and clicked "end process" I didn't get any warning BUT I did get the dreaded 60 second shutdown notice and my system shut down cry cry But only once. And then I went through the whole thing about running my anti-virus and any other program I could think of and came up clean. I started studying lsass.exe on the net(forums, sites, etc.) to no avail. And then later in the afternoon on Sat. the error popped up out of the blue cry cry That's when I got on the forum with you guys.

If you shut processes down, when you reboot they will come back on automatically.  To disable services (processes), that is a whole different ball game.  This would have to be done under computer management>services in control panel.  (Not available on 98, me) We gotta do it thru a process viewer...... Sad  Could you post a scrnprnt of you network connections window?  You don't need a multitude of connections to be on line.... Just the active one.  May be one of the others causing the error?  I'd get rid of the unused ones to see if one of those is confilicting somehow.

cak46 I thought it might be a good idea to ask 99 RAT about the start of the problem again. So if he just ended processes they should have automatically came back on.It doesn't look like it worked that way.Unless he did disable or delete them some way guess we need to find out if he just ended processes or did more.Would ending processes ever cause the 60 second shutdown warning & shut down in XP? Or would it take more to do that(like disabling or deleting.)
I know its not the same as his network connections window but his network adapter list looked long to me.
Just some thoughts on this to see if this might lead you in a direction to find the problem.

Yes.  If you end the lsass process, it will trigger that event.  A process is just another program.  The entry in the registry would have to be reomved or disable to stop the program from running at boot time... or the actual file would have to be deleted from the system.  His list is long most likely due to the multiple connections in his network connections window.  Personally, I would remove them all and start over, but not being a Comcast user, I would hesitate to do that without a Comcast user explaining in detail to him how to rebuild the connection after re-installation of his nic drivers and tcp.  Some software does install "devices" and if the software he installed did this, but didn't remove the entries in the reistry, that could be causing the error but I doubt that is what's occurring, since its an intermittent thing and it occurs on clicks on icons, etc.  Good idea Cholla.
69Rat:  Did the problems start while installing or after uninstalling the Hunter software....?.  And could you find out if there is a list of files associated with that software?  Let's take a different tack and see if we can find some errant entry in the registry for one of those files before messing with youir network setup, if you want to.

Hi guys. OK, I had all the trouble installing SHIII up to and including the 11th. Later in the afternoon on the 11th is when the error started, BUT AFTER I clicked to "end process" on lsass.exe, I got the 60 second doom, then later I got the error. On Sunday, the 12th, I installed XP Pro and then the game installed cleanly. But of course I still had the error cry :cry:Days later I uninstalled SHIII just to get it out of the way. I ran a complete search and deleted all things SHIII and then ran PC Rescue to remove any "shrapnel" from the registry or any other files: links, shortcuts etc,  that the "shrapnel" might be in

cak46, I can send you my "Network Properties" page but it's still blank cry cry

BTW here is the message I get when I open "Network Connections" from my Control Panel

I'll be back after awhile. I'm going to watch Vin Diesel's new movie, "The Pacifier" He's babysitting kids :haha: :haha: :haha:

One more thing before I go. When I boot up I can't open anything via icons from my desktop UNTIL the error has come up Exclamation. It's almost like it's "loading in the background" and nothing can be done until it comes up on the screen, maybe 3 or 4 minutes

Try setting your desktop to classic view by clicking start, then click at the top where your user name is with the right mouse button, then click properties.  This will put the network places icon on your desktop.  Next, right mouse click once on the network places icon, then click properties to see your network connections (hopefully).  If its empty, try this:
Start your machine in "Safemode with networking".  Log in as Administrator and check for your network connections from there.  Can't remember whether you tried this or not.
Sounds like it's trying to load something that it can't load, either because it's missing or the program that is trying to load is dependent upon another that isn't loaded.  (If this makes any sense to you......) Don't bother with the network connections screen print if its just blank.  Had forgotten about that   Embarassed

Just found this...
http://www.adminlife.com/247reference/msgs/20/100691.aspx

Try this first (excerpt from link above)
Click Start>Run the type in Services.msc and click run button.  The list of services on your computer will come up.  Check to see if the network connections service is running.  If it isn't, right mouse click once on it and click enable.
If it doesn't start, post the error message here.

If it is enabled then do this:
in Start/Run type these lines and hit ENTER after each line

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Then reboot and try to view your network connections again.
BTW: These commands will re-register the dlls in your registry. (Put back entires which may have been removed by something else....
If you get any errors, please post them.  We may be on to something here...... Shocked

Well how do I start. Everything is still the same cry cry BTW this must be an xp thing, but when you right click on user and click properties ie: start/user, I get"task bar and start menu properties" and I couldn't find network places, it's looks like it's network connections for xp only?) anyhow I use my desktop icon or go thru the control panel to get to the network connections.
Safe Mode with networking didn't work either cry
Your next thought, and I'm sure your right, is that something is trying to load but NOT the error. The error is coming up after whatever can't load. Makes perfect sense.
Also, the 3 items ran successfully but with no results cry
Just for kicks, earlier I went in and read all backup entries from PC Rescue and couln't find anything that looked at all suspicous, mostly McAfee stuff. PC Rescue does not, however, like my Logitech start-up entry at all. But it has to stay there or the mouse won't start right, just goes to default drivers. Looks like I'd better pick up a couple more cases Exclamation

Yeah, "goin' on a benda"', as we say here in Maine .......:haha: :haha:
Sorry about the start menu. I left a step out.  When you get into the properties of the "Start menu", check off "Classic View".     Was the network connections service enabled in your Services list?  Try starting the service manually by getting to a command prompt, then type in     net start netman

Here it is, well it's running just fine, it's just invisible :haha: :haha: evil3 Also when one is in safe mode with xp, the only windows interface there is, is a very basic Classic windows style, like stripped to the bone!. One really cool thing though is now I can run my dvd rom in safe mode Exclamation It would never work with 98se or 95. Great in case a guy has a driver that is on a cd rom!!

Well Duh Embarassed Embarassed I guess I could put the screen print up for ya, ya think?

I think the shrapnel from this thing is getting a little too much. It's seems to be permeating throughout my system.. Now look at what I get when I try to get into system info! And then the network thing. And the mouse thing which also seems to affecting the way windows media 10 works, ie, I can't close it out the way I always did. And the windows scripting thing when I open the ultimate troubleshooter. Too many cooties cry I have reinstalled the mouse, maybe 4 times, windows media 10 at least once. I can't just click on a video to watch it, I have to refresh the screen several times before it will "take" whew. Do you think that all this is coming from one cootie? Or maybe a couple cooties. BTW, just in case, this morning I put in a second hard drive(slave) in my unit, and that could be my backup file storage for transfering all files and folders if it comes to that. Now that's something that I have done before, also done some cloning, etc. The really neat thing about xp is that you can go to "disk manager" and click on "disk mangement" and actually see all your drives in graph form right in windows! From there you can format, create a partition, create logical drive, name, letter, etc. It's so cool. Almost eliminates the need for the F/disk stuff.

Oh, BTW I read last night about a fix that I almost tried and the sad thing is that it probably would have except for the version difference. cry :cry:Some guy on a forum suggested copying  a good lsass file from another machine and pasting it right onto the one in question(mine) well my kitchen puter is xp pro BUT from 2002 and mine is brand new with sp2. The first part of the version # was OK but the last part did not jive ie; I would be pasting and older lsass file onto a newer one Exclamation Exclamation I'll post the link after I submit this-cheers
