I have had several weeks of slow and intermittent service - Web Accelleration Status - Inactive or unconnected much of the time.  I connected via dial-up last night since I couldn't connect via DirecWay at all and was surprised at how much faster my e-mail was sending/receiving compared to DirecWay in recent weeks.

Today, I spent 4 hours and 15 minutes on the phone (after numerous phone calls over the past few weeks - all to India until last night when they allowed me to the "Advanced Level" - whoopee) - so after spending half my work day today on the phone they finally say that they can't do anymore (forced reload, recommissioning, re-registration, etc, etc, etc) and an engineer will have to call back - "How long until I can expect the call?" - thinking sometime later today perhaps - nope - 3 to 5 working days.  Today being Friday - that means a week - next Friday, I was told.  I asked to speak to a supervisor and had the most worthless conversation I've ever had with a supposed "service" person.  Matt Cameron is the manager for the "Advanced Level" tech support.  His role is simply to make excuses and tell you what their rules are and what they can't do for you.  His attitude is that I should be grateful to be able to send them a check each month - service? What's that?  I asked to file a complaint and he told me that I would have to write a corporate letter.  He finally admitted that his role is worthless and we left the conversation in agreement on one point at least.

I would strongly suggest that anyone should think twice about doing business with DirecWay - I'm going to look at my options which are very limited since I can't get internet service over the phone line or cable where I am.  That leaves dial-up or satellite.  Anyone have any other suggestions??  This is pathetic.

Yeah, I am also new to DirecWay, got it before yesterday.  It's about 500Kbps for me right now for Downlaod, which isn't great.  And I agree, I had to pay 800$ upfront installation and then it's 80$ a month (canadian dollars). I find those prices REDICULOUS for the kind of service you get.

And to think I'm only 2 days in with this crap, wow it's gonna be a long couple of years.

An update with a happy ending (for now).

After an ongoing problem that has lasted many weeks with numerous calls to India (I'm getting a better hang of the accent now), to the "Advanced" level and finally on to the "big leagues" of Engineering - after re-registration, re-configuration, re-loading software and finally replacing the modem - my problem was solved.  However, engineering had erroneously concluded that I had to be re-pointed to another satellite (even though my signal strength was consistently 73-76).  But when the installer came with instruction to re-point, he didn't think that made any sense and replaced the transmitter assembly instead.  Voila!!  All these weeks of downtime and hour upon hour on the phone resetting every conceivable setting - and then doing it again two or three more times - was wasted effort.  It was a faulty transmitter all along and it was the installer who made the correct call.  Thank you Glenn!!  appx 900 download and 50 upload speeds now - not lightning fast but, compared to what I've been living through, this is the golden age of technology to me. Made in the shade -  cool

DirecWay does.
They cap it... also it's partly because of weak transmitters IMO...

A bigger dish and some extra cash will get you better uploads probably.

I remember when I tried to upload a 20 meg file, that didn't go too well...

What people say about DirecWay...

"I've been very happy with DirecWay, I wouldn't switch to cable or DSL now even if they did become available."

Some people are happy with DirecWay.

It's fake. You can tell DirecWay made those up by themselves.

Look at some others:

"Not only great speed, but excellent customer service. Feel free to quote me on this if you would like. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is fabulous."

"I live in the country and there is no high speed anything here. DirecWay was fast, simple, and cost effective for me. For once a company that said they were going to do something, and did it better than they had promised."

"My DirecWay system at home outperforms my line at work. I am extremely pleased and have recommended DirecWay to several of my friends and colleagues."
