Can the 481 be networked with a router?  Like a linksys DSL unit.  Or do I need to keep using Winproxy?  I have looked all over and can't find out if the 481 is more like 180:)  I hate my 360.  I will pay the $500 just to stop using winproxy and starband software.  Any how thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks
Ralph

Yes the 481 can be networked using most any router and does not require any SB software on your machine.
I would not recommend that you spend the money for one though.
The performance increase is now well below the threshold level that would make the cost worth it.
In fact many with 360s are now getting better performance than I am with a 481.
If you still want one; mine will be for sale just as soon as another option becomes available to me like WildBlue or wireless.

My 360 stahls for lack of a better word on the workstations but not the server.  I have lived with slow speeds on starband for well over 4yrs!  Downloads are always ok but the web browsing is just dying!  It does not appen often mainly when I am opening a ton of windows.

I would like another option.  i want something more stable like DSL.  Keep me in mind when u sell.

Regular web surfing is slow due to the overcrowding of the transponders.
I'm seeing average ping times of 3000 ms or more.
Sometimes it takes two to three minutes for Google news to load.
eBay is mostly unusable.
I'm on the waiting list for WildBlue.
They are using the new Ka band transponders which have way more capacity than the Ku band that SB and DW use so it should take longer before they get "crowded".
They are offering 1.5 meg down and 128K up for less than Ii'm now paying SB for 750 / 100 which Ii haven't seen for more than 4 months.

I don't see those problems, and I'm on eBay almost constantly.

I do get unexplained 'stalls' though, but I think it may be my PC or my other cookie stopper/management program.

I just wish I could get my 360 to work with ICS so I could use it across the LAN.  All the settings are right [I think], but no go........

I am using winproxy.  It works.  I do think it is to blame for my stahls.  Have you tried that?
