I upgraded my 1.5 mb SBC Express account to the 3.0 mb SBC Pro account.

According to the tech support it became effective yesterday and they are showing
3.0 mb down.

Unfortunately all the speed tests I run come back at 1.2 to 1.4 mb.  The same exact speed I was getting with the cheaper Express.  SBC tech support said there is no way to independently test the speed. The router and their tools show 3.0 mb down, I am just going to have to accept their word for it.

Now does that sound like a good product?

Here are my results, with the new 3.0 mb download speed.
::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 1269 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 155 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server1)
Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 09:30:56 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)
Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.61 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 74.52 % of your hosts average (pacbell.net)

Did you use testmy.net as a way to test your speed when you had Express?

Yes, I used testmy.net when I had Express.

The 2 Wire router shows that I am getting 3008 Kbps download.
The independent test sights do not corroborate that speed.

Here is my latest test.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 1266 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 155 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 10:32:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)
Bottom Line:: 23X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.61 sec

Yes...something is not right. That is about the speed I get with SBC Express. That will make me think twice before I go pro.

Try : http://help.sbcglobal.net/dsl/speedtest/  this is a SBC speed test site...they can't argue with their own speed test if you bring that up.   ;)

Upload has gone up from 128 to 430.
Though my concern is that the download has not increased.

Connection is:: 430 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)
Upload Speed is:: 53 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server1)
Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 11:39:25 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)
Bottom Line:: 8X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 19.32 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 76.95 % faster than the average for host (pacbell.net)

If you try the SBC speed test, tell us if it gives results that are in par with testmy.net results.

Check the speed with  http://help.sbcglobal.net/dsl/speedtest/  .

It shows 1.179 Mbps download and 435.35 Kbps up.

Again I called their tech support. They said that even their own speed test would not show the higher speed.   It doesn't make sense.

OK, just got off the phone with tech support.  They have placed the issue at "Level 2 tier" support.
A trouble ticket has been issued and they now will be testing the line as well as the router in their Central Switching office.

Stay tuned for further developments.

OK, after an entire day of SBC tech support phone tag, they have finally fixed the problem.
Here are my new speed results:

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 2466 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)
Download Speed is:: 301 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Jul 20 2005 20:29:12 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)
Bottom Line:: 44X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.4 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 44.97 % faster than the average for host (pacbell.net)

Moral of the story: If they sell you DSL Pro ( up to 3.0 Mbps)  make sure you get what you pay for.  Even if you have to call them and demand a trouble ticket.

Same story just took longer to go from 2x dial-up speeds to the 1.2-1.3Mb range.

Hi,

I am sorry to reply to an old posting, but your case is as same as my case right now. I just upgraded my DSL Express to Pro on 6/19. I know that SBC already told me that speed upgrade will be processed in approximately 10 business day. But today, i am just curious about that after i read your posting, so i went to check it by putting my IP address, then the screen showed me that the upgrade speed is already there (just in 1 night) than 10 days. But i ran the sbc speed test, it showed me that my upgrade DSL speed is still Express speed than Pro speed. It means that the information was showed on the screen is just fooling us compared to the result of the test.

Do i really need to wait until 10 business days processing or go ahead to call SBC? I think that if i call them now, they will give this 10 business day excuse to explain it to me. So, it will look like that they are not WRONG!

Please give me an advice about it. Why don't we go to sue SBC together? I think that many people got the same experience about SBC DSL upgrading. SBC always give us one more lower speed than it is supposed to be, for instance if we subscribe DSL Pro, SBC gives us DSL Express speed, if we subscribe DSL Elite, SBC gives us DSL Pro speed, etc.

Thank you.
