I'm running Verizon VoiceWing (one week now).  It's working great!!!  I'm getting ready to port my old phone number to it and start saving about $30 per month just in base charges.  With unlimited free long distance, it'll save me even more money.

I like being able to check voice mail from the PC.  I like seeing the incoming and outgoing calls from the PC whenever I want.  I also like the fact I can use my wireless network to put the phone wherever I want instead of being tied to the existing wall jacks.

My only dislikes are not being able to have distinctive ring for two lines and the voice mail doesn't allow for multiple boxes.  We can live with that though.

that is very interesting.. what router are you running it though?  Have you tried downloading and talking on the phone at the same time?

I'm not using a consumer grade router.  I use a server with routing and firewall software on it.  Regarding talking and doing other stuff, absolutely.  That's where FIOS and the 2meg upload really shines.  I had a friend pulling some software (1.7gig) off my FTP server, two Xbox Live sessions (my son and I), and my daughter yapping away on the phone all at the same time.

There's no way in hell my old Charter connection could do that with 256k upload.  And they wondered why I kept telling them for three years it wasn't enough.... Sigh...

My final test happens today.  My final test will be to see how it handles a web based meeting with voice at the same time.  If it passes that, then I'm going to start the porting process.

FYI, in case anyone else is interested, my final test today worked out nicely.  I did a LiveMeeting meeting where I was the presenter, did desktop sharing, etc.  Everything work out well so I'm moving full steam ahead porting my old number.

And I took the security discussion offline.  I'm too paranoid to discuss my stuff in a public forum.  Sorry.

Hey:

I'm also using vonage Viop....   No issues......  Great and great price.  HOWEVER,  make sure you ahve the bandwidth.  I have 1mps up so it's not an issue.  If your 256  you could hit a wall much faster...

I've run gaming,  hosted server and had phones working.  All fine.  If I'm really pumping everything AND I upload a huge file,  the file goes slower,  but everthing else is fine.

Also extra phone lines are cheap and you can route them so thats really a nice function,  allong with having voicemail on your computer.

Get it!!!

Enjoy

I have been on Vonage since 9/04 on a 3M/256 connection. Very Happy
No problems at all unless Charter cable goes down....rare.
My daughter also has it in her dorm at college.  what a money saver. :haha:
Would recomend it to anyone.

Hahaha.. that is an awesome idea.. VoIP at college.. my guess is that you will also get QoS priority depending on what type of gear the college is running..
