First I am happy to see that Surewest FIOS got a topic (seems like my request for one back when I posted my 10Mbit test went throughSmile

A couple months back I got surewest's 10Mbps/10Mbps FIOS with 75GB bandwidth limit (Standard was 40GB for $50/month) and it was great. The download was fast and the upload was unbeatable for a residential connection. The only thing that sucked was the 75GB limit.
Now I was shocked when I got a promotion in the mail that said they were now offering 20Mbps/20Mbps FIOS  with UNLIMITED bandwidth. And what made this even better is that it was the same price as my 10Mbit line with extra bandwidth at $89.95. I called up ASAP and switched it over and after I got off the phone with them I was on a 20Mbps connection.
The great thing about this connection is that I can actually get higher than 20Mbps (Up to 30Mbps) if I have a ton of connections open with something like BT.

If you live in Surewests service area (Greater Sacramento Area, Roseville) I would highly recommend you get their service and upgrade to the 20Mbit.
Just to give you perspective, so far in August I have downloaded 700GB and uploaded 1.5TB. I also run a private ftp and a web server.

I just found out that I am on the Level 3 Black Fiber backbone for the United States and Europe which means I get superlow pings even over great distances.

Verizon FIOS sucks compared to Surewest. Razz

  Dang we you live I want to move there lol? I would love that I would no longer pay for hosting just setup a server on a 20mbs/20mbs heck yea. It would save alot of money. Heck even cable probably love that it may not be fast enough to run this site on but it would be cool. I would love to have it I am stuck with slow dsl for now can't even get version fios yet it sucks to live in oklahoma lol.

There is no cap on the 20Mbit/20Mbit! Only the 10Mbit/10Mbit has a cap.

I use about 1TB a month on the 20Mbit service and there are no additional charges.

Every since I got switched over to the 20Mbit/20Mbit I always wondered why I could only get 18.5Mbps down. At first I didn't really care and was just enjoying the fast speeds but it just started getting to me over time. Why wasn't I getting the full 20Mbit? I mean come on this is Fiber there shouldn't any reason why I couldn't get the full speed.

Well I complained to tech support yesterday about my fluctuating speeds and they sent out someone today (surewest is quick like that, if you have a problem they usually send out someone the next day) to take a look at it. When he saw my speed fluctuations he said he would brb and went over to surewest to test my port. Well it seems the port I was on had a problem and was lagging. So he got them (reluctantly) to switch me to a new port.

Here are my new speeds on the fixed port.

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 20051 Kbps about 20.1 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
Download Speed is:: 2448 kB/s

Bottom Line:: 358X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.42 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 358.52 % faster than the average for host (surewest.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-3RC98A04F

::::::::::.. Download Stats ..::::::::::
Connection is:: 19986 Kbps about 20 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)
Download Speed is:: 2440 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Wed Nov 30 16:07:51 PST 2005
Bottom Line:: 357X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.42 sec
Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 334.29 % faster than the average for host (surewest.net)
Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/stats/id-XZ9G807LE

Thats about as close to 20Mbps as you can get  Very Happy

Below are my Santa Cruz NDT tests from http://nitro.ucsc.edu/
I also attached my Cablenut ccs file for other people on Surewest's 20Mbit service that need to tweak their connections.
That one is good all around for me with RWIN based on 25Mbit at 150ms latency though sometimes I go higher if I need more "international" speed.

Upload seemed to be the same, which is a good thing because my upload before was 24Mbps and I am happy it didn't go down.

To testmy.net as always, I can only get 4-5Mbps even when I can get 10Mbps upload to Speakeasy in Dallas, TX... I think your upload test has a problem.

For more local tests I get up to 24Mbps upload. For bittorrent upload I can also get those speeds because more than one connection is open.

Time Warner is really falling behind in terms of speed, but with no fios competition in my area they continue to keep prices high and speeds low. All I can do is wait for Sbc Lightspeed and pray that it comes soon.

Yay I knocked 1/100th of a second off my 1MB download time with only 46kB/s (376.83kB/s) faster download speed XD  ;)

* cyberbeing remembers back to before he got surewest and his max download was only 160kB/s and max upload was a wopping 28kB/s

Wow, I am now only 207.73% faster than the average surewest.net host vs. 358.52 % faster on November 30th.
Is that just a glitch or does me doing a lot of speed tests really make that much of a difference?

Found out another interesting fact today. According to Surewest tech support massive uploading or downloading via bittorrent, P2P, web, etc (as long as its legal) doesn't violate their TOS ever!!! They said that the only way I could violate the TOS would be to use up soo much processing power/bandwidth that other customers would not be able to connect to the internet. Considering that they have a state of the art fiber optic network makes me think that this makes it pretty much impossible to do that along with the fact that each customer is on a dedicated line. This tells me that they must have bought an insane amount of bandwidth from Level3 that me who now uses between 1.5TB (50GB/day X 30days) and 3TB (100GB/day X 30 days) per month doesn't even make a dent in it.

I am come to realization that a consumer level router has trouble with speeds like with a lot of connections open. It pretty much killed my D-Link DGL-4300 which drops an insane amount of packets and reboots the wan port (drops my internet link) for no reason. I will be returning the P.O.S. D-Link and buying a Zywall 5 or something similar next week via recommendation.
Zywall 5 Datasheet
If anyone here has a recommendation for a robust router I would be interested.
