Im in the same boat. Was hitting 5M on 4M line, 3 days ago things started getting really slow. Yesterday I tested and was getting 3654 DL consistantly. Today the same. I been talking to everyone trying to figure it out, but either no ones talking or they just dont know. Im from northern PA. Adelphia is 100 yards from my house. I know alot of people(friends) that work there and no one thats works there knows anything.

You need to call back and tell them you want to speak with Tier 2 TSR, that your tired of complaining to a TSR that is only qualified as a CSR, and you want something done immediately. Your problem is simple, they switched you to basic. Make them work to fix it. Request a tech to your home. Tell them you wont pay until you service is restored to Premier speeds.

My problem is now fixed. It was a line problem down the street. One of my buddies was working on  the line and I ran down to talk to him. He ran a couple tests, fixed the line within the hour and im back up to 5M speeds again.

For what it's worth, according to Adelphia's web site:

High-Speed Internet      Premier High-Speed Internet

Download Speeds         Download Speeds
Up to 4 Mbps                Up to 6 Mbps

Upload Speeds             Upload Speeds
Up to 384 Kbps             Up to 768 Kbps

Apparently, there's a name game going on at Adelphia.  When I started my service in late March of this year, High-Speed Internet was called Preferred.  Later, I learned there is or was another service with lower speeds than Preferred (aka High-Speed Internet) that is or was called Basic.  Not finding any information about Basic on the Internet, I called Adelphia a couple months ago and was told there was a Basic service at that time.  Unfortunately, I don't recall the speeds of that service.  However, I recall seeing a posting about the Basic service on this forum a while ago.  I seem to recall the monthly cost was $14.95 for four months but don't remember what the long-term cost was or is.

I dont know what packages are available in certain areas, but I do know that there are different packages available for different areas. In my town, it goes like this..

Basic 256/256
Prefered 4/384
Premier 6/768

This , again, is northern PA . Coudersport to be exact. Speeds are very good in this area, but theres too much latency for my taste. Me and my son play games online alot, and pings are almost always over 100, at times will hit 250. Neighbor has Verizon DSL and he is an active gamer also. His ping is never rises above 40. This is Coudersport, the birth place of Adelphia, and everybody and their brother has cable, so its to be expected.
