I have a p4 socket 478
2GHz
768mb ram
radeon p500 pro (overclocked)

I know the risk of overclocking my CPU but i want to try anyway...
how do i do it?
Can anyone help me?

First download cpu-z and post the specs of your cpu.  For example is it a Northwood or a Prescott.  Then you'll have an idea of the voltage level you can push it to.  Overclocking is relatively risk free as long as you increase the FSB in small increments and lock your PCI slots.  You probably should start out increasing in 10MHz doses.  The quality of your ram has alot to do with your overclockability as well.  What's your make and specs of your ram?  You can get that off of CPU-z as well.  And what kind of cooling do you have?  Download motherboard monitor and see what kind of temperatures you're currently getting.  Don't want to fry that puppy. 

For your info my specs are:
2.8 Northwood P4 overclocked to 3.2
1gig Geil 3200 ram
Gigabyte 8IK1100 motherboard
NVidia 6800GT overclocked to 400/1100

Northwood's are great for overclocking in that they run at a lower voltage than the previous makes and that thus have a lower temp.

The first thing you're going to want to keep in mind is Temps...so you'll need a utility to monitor those...MBM5 is what I use...you can get that here http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
The same place you got CPU-Z you can get a utility for overclocking called Clockgen http://www.cpuid.org/clockgen.php

Personally I use CPUFSB for overclocking because I can finetune the frequency, but you'll have to pay a few bucks for it...

Bottom line is what works best for you...
Also, if you have a Mobo that allows adjustment, you can do this in the bios... ;)
If not, you'll have to use a utility to control the FSB (front side Bus)
If you don't have enough fans & heatsinks to properly displace the heat, you have a good chance of burning your sh*t up...
Very IMPORTANT: ALWAYS READ DIRECTIONS FIRST!!! Confused
If you don't take the time to Research what you're doing... you might as well just pull your mobo out an throw it in a fire...

Looks like he could go with a 133 FSB on the cpu and that would put it to 2.66GHz. if his MB has that adjustable in the BIOS, plus make sure you have a real good heatsink and fan and use some heat sink compound like arctic silver.

well I froze at 2.4 and got screen distorition at 2.33
so i left it at 2.3 and it comes up as 2.1 why is that??

so i left it at 2.3 and it comes up as 2.1 why is that??
