I would like to know this to, even though I don't think it will be anytime soon. SBC has had fiber optic laid down all the major streets in my city (Raytown, MO) for about five years now, ever since we had most of the streets and such redone. On all of the poles behind the houses, also, are the little signs that say "Careful when digging Fiber Optic Wires burdied here, call this number etc. etc. So, if and when they do decide to go ahead with Lightspeed, I think it would probably be quick to come here, maybe, due to the fact that fiber has already been laid. Dunno though.

fine, it's in the street. how much you want to pay for install to have them dig to your house and lay fiber inside from the nearest node?

You'll see SBC Lightspeed in Texas first. They are agressively trying to compete with Verizon and now that the Texas franchise laws have been changed, they have even more incentive. And I'm not talking about just the data side. They are also working feverishly on their IPTV Video offerings. See
http://www.microsoft.com/tv/IPTVEdition.mspx
for a glimse of that (from what I hear).
