Am I the only one who gets such horrible speeds from Mediacom??  It's been getting worse and worse and finally I found this site and knew I wasn't just imagining it.    I did the ccleaner and it helped slightly. I'm not sure what kind of connection speed I was supposed to be getting but this isn't much better than dial-up.

Hey man, i think there is a problem with your cable line.  Because i am getting about 580kB/s Downloads Speeds and about 32kB/s Upload Speeds.  Thats the 5000/256 Plan.  I live in West Frankfort, and i usually never have a problem

I'm in both camps. I'm in the Sugar Grove system and some times it is horrid - mostly upstream issues that make my Vonage sound like Darth Vader on quaaludes.  Other times, it's pretty good.

Check your cable modem - I had a misbehaving Linksys.  Also note that Mediacom is doing radical upgrades to become a VoIP and VOD provider, so some of the wires are duct-taped while they do this.

I am a former mediacom customer. i live about 20 minutes from westerman's office. the service sucks here too. go to DSL, you'll be a lot happier, with a lot less headaches, and a lot less often. and to boot, youll get a lot better service.

The problem isnt the techs mediacom employs, its the crappy burueacracy that makes it impossible to get any service in any REASONABLE time frame and usually requires more than one trip from said techs.

mediacom sucks. go with DSL. When VP shows up on a forum to do damage control, that should be a big clue something is not right. Bail, youll be happier.

That, and ask Mr. Westerman just how it is mediacom doesnt have enough techs in the field, cant seem to retain them very long, and cant seem to fix the chronic customer service issues mediacom is infamous for?

Actually have to disagree with you there ev,  after Mediacomm did their major upgrade in our area (to support VoIP on their networks) my speeds have been kick ass.  Sorry I can't post them I'm writing from work.  My friend who switched to DSL during the bad times gets way slower speeds and his modem resets itself often.  Sounds like he's the one with a headache now.

all i know is what i see here in my area. im glad they are working out for you, inferno. in my area, the service is substantially less reliable, and dealing with their customer service is worse than a trip to the dentist for drilling. they suck. and DSL here doesnt seem to have any of the headaches your friend is currently experiencing, and costs 40% less.

im happy with my switch, and for those in my area atleast, i would recommend the same course of action.

When I first got my internet it sucked I had the 5 mb download speed and was getting 2 mb at top, but they fixed it with the lines or whatever, and ended up with like 4 mb download, but then I got the max thing, and have been getting like 8 mb and 700 upload.  Only downside is there cable service sucks.  They haven't added anything in the year and a half ive had it.

I'm a new subscriber to Mediacom, I got the VIP pack.
I have gotten a pretty good deal I suppose.
My reciever was bad once and It only took me a day or two to get someone to come out and change out the box. See if they will come out and look at your modem and cabling if they havern't already and do testing of their own.
Best of luck.
